Oh how lovely, very romantic. It definitely calls for a new frock, shoes....It’s a symbolic ritual where a couple’s hands are tied together with ribbon or cord to represent their commitment to each other. Their hands are wrapped together in an expression of their love with words, poetry or music accompanying the ritual. It’s an ancient Celtic tradition.
How romantic.![]()
@Grannylorraine did you finish crocheting the Nutcracker? I'd love to see a photo. My attempts at crochet are blankets and scarves although i have done some nice ones. I've never done anything smaller though....yet.
Yes I did finish, I’ll take a photo later and pop it on here. I am terrible at remembering to take photos of the things I make.@Grannylorraine did you finish crocheting the Nutcracker? Not for us ours is a plug in one.One piece of advice, take the batteries out of the in home monitor thing and put it away in a drawer or the back of a cupboard somewhere. It’ll drive you crazy looking at it and it’s not as if you’re going to suddenly find that you’re leaking electricity from somewhere or find yourself deciding you can turn off the fridge or something!
If it is a job you really like the look of you would find there are so many H & S procedures in place in terns of handing the hazard materials that there would be minimal risk if you observed them, as for the smells, tell me about it, there are just some smells that stay with you for life. I worked in a microbiology lab and there were just some things that smelt really bad.I just missed the time to say good morning so...good day everyone! It was a 5'9 with a lovely flat line, much the same as yesterday (when I don't think I posted).
I had a great time at book club yesterday. There is an idea to do a weekend away together, which I am excited about, but also very aware that we haven't hang out outside the club before and a few hours a week is not the same as 24 hours together for 3 days! So I've suggested we start with a lunch somewhere outside our regular cafe, or a day out somewhere closer... Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of the "girls trip"! I just think it would be good to start with smaller plans. People seemed on board.
After I had lunch at Costa with a friend I don't see often and it was nice as well.
The room search continues. I have 2 more places to visit, both same price and good locations. One of them is unfurnished, which would be normally a no from me but I like the rest of the flat (only my bedroom would be unfurnished, the rest is all ready) and I'm getting good vibes from the flatmate, so I'm going to at least see it in person. I'm not gonna lie, I'm fantasizing about having my IKEA momentTelling myself "well, you could make the room to your taste..." Probably would get a bit overwhelmed when I had to actually choose and pay for everything, but hey, there's a first time for everything.
I'm also in job hunt mode, although being pretty selective with my applications as luckily I am not in a rush to quit my current position. I came across something in the local hospital, a lab role, I started the application but I am not very sure I will send it. I am honestly not sure I am brave enough or have the stomach for this one:
Have a lovely day, folks. I'm not sure what I will do until my evening shift. Woke up to rain and thunder and thinking it would be ideal to stay home reading, but now the sun is out and I'm conflicted!
I can imagine. I am not a person with an very sensitive nose, but I'm not immune to unpleasant smells. I'm concerned about the sight too, although I've seen some gross food waste. I am guessing it would put me off my lunch until I get used to itIf it is a job you really like the look of you would find there are so many H & S procedures in place in terns of handing the hazard materials that there would be minimal risk if you observed them, as for the smells, tell me about it, there are just some smells that stay with you for life. I think that’s really rude, but it seems to be the way things are these days. My son was told not to expect a reply when he was job hunting, for quite specialist engineering posts, so you wouldn’t think they’d have been inundated with applicants. Also, a mini rant: what's with this "if you haven't heard back from us in 4 weeks please assume you haven't been successful in this occasion..."? In 4 weeks, do they seriously not have time to send you a generic email saying you were not selected?
About 30 years ago I applied for a job with the Health and Safety Executive and was surprisingly invited for interview. I casually aske how many people they were interviewing and they said 50 for 4 posts. I asked how many applicants they had had and was gobsmacked when they said 5000. I felt quite pleased with myself for even getting an interview.I think that’s really rude, but it seems to be the way things are these days. In my last few years in the NHS, we'd sometimes get hundreds of people applying for a job via the central NHS Jobs website who didn't come close to meeting the Person Specification for the job: they'd simply send their existing application form off in response to almost any job that came up.About 30 years ago I applied for a job with the Health and Safety Executive and was surprisingly invited for interview. You never seem to be able to predict how many people apply for a job sometimes it would be very few, like less than 10, other times it could be over a hundred. We would shortlist about 8 as we found that at least 2 people just wouldn't turn up.
It used to sadden me that people applied for jobs that they were grossly over qualified for, people with a PhD applying for a job that was essentially lab washing up. We had very strict criteria for who we short listed. In my last few years in the NHS, we'd sometimes get hundreds of people applying for a job via the central NHS Jobs website who didn't come close to meeting the Person Specification for the job: they'd simply send their existing application form off in response to almost any job that came up.
