Oh interesting. I've not heard of the dawn phenomenon, thank you. I mean, my 7 year old does a pretty good job of getting me going at 6.30am so I guess I just need to tell my body it can hold back on the glucose release@Foz556 - a lot of people get a rise in the mornings after waking. It’s known as the dawn phenomenon and is the body’s way of getting you going after waking. I use insulin so not able to offer any help in how to counteract this for you without medication. Maybe others on here have ideas?
thanks its not just the retinal scan its what treatment etc I need that's worrying which I know will have to be done at hospital, I have a phobia with going to hospital even when I went with my hubby when he had his treatment, the way it effects me is terrible I go into a panic I can't control, so the prospect of having to visit for treatment and I was told today it would be on going just terrifies me.@Pam123 - sorry to hear of your shock, hoping all goes well for you and it’s not as bad as you are fearing.
@goodybags may be able to offer some advice or comfort as he has shared a bit about his experiences on here.thanks its not just the retinal scan its what treatment etc I need that's worrying which I know will have to be done at hospital, I have a phobia with going to hospital even when I went with my hubby when he had his treatment, the way it effects me is terrible I go into a panic I can't control, so the prospect of having to visit for treatment and I was told today it would be on going just terrifies me.
Hi Pam I just picked as our forum friend @Eternal422 tagged me in, I have indeed been undergoing treatment for Retinopathy (in my case for just over 10 years) but I know many people who haven’t needed nearly as much treatment as I have needed4.7 this morning had a bit of a shock I booked a appointment to get my eyes tested my last test was just after I was diagnosed with diabetes 18 months ago, was due another test in 6 months time but ive been getting blurred vision and a strange greyish shadow covering my right eye for the last few weeks, I have a condition called cornea dystrophy for some years but had little or no change so I was expecting it had changed, my optician said he suspected I have retinopathy he took a couple of scans and said there is swelling in the right eye which explains the shadow, he is referring me I assume for treatment oddly enough I have an appointment for my first retail scan next week its taken that long to come through, must admit I am worried no idea what to expect now didn't expect this as my BS is well controlled,
thank you so much for your reply, I am not to worried about the retinal scan which is next week as its at the local spec savers, its the hospital and what's to come, I know its got to be done as I don't want to loose my sight its horrible as everything is blurred and its my good eye that's got the swelling and weird shadow like a circle, I could hardly read any of the letters etc on the test board with my right eye, which has scared me,my optician who iive known for many years went going to change may prescription but decided to in the end, I am hoping they will help and its not to late to get it treated. I hope your treatment is going ok.Hi Pam I just picked as our forum friend @Eternal422 tagged me in, I have indeed been undergoing treatment for Retinopathy (in my case for just over 10 years) but I know many people who haven’t needed nearly as much treatment as I have needed
Just so you know @Pam123 what to expect (at the Eye Department when you attend)
Firstly a basic eye test
Then a retinal scan (they will do the retinal scan each time you attend the Eye Clinic)
so where a “Normal Diabetic” will get a retinal scan every 12/24 month
us lucky ones
get them more often, as if you need treatment they obviously excuse the pun keep an Eye on you
depending what they see they will talk you through all the treatment then can do
for some people it’s laser treatment and for some just a better control of your sugars is all that’s needed
there’s probably quite a few of us on here that have previously had / still have eye problems
I’ve had quite a few different treatments
all the treatments are under local anaesthetic (dripped in your eyes) as eye drops
It’s not as bad as dentists (used to be)
the good thing is your option identified you need to be seen
ok so some of the treatments sound horribly horrific
but they are not
the DR who carries out the procedure will calm you
I’ve discovered the calmer I am the better it is
there’s nothing wrong with telling them of your anxiety and panic
I to have a swelling in the retina in my right eye
Thanks but I don't deserve the congrats - that was actually Heinz 5.7.Congrats on the HS Dez @MeeTooTeeTo
A round 5.0 for me. Fog has cleared here, but it’s still a bit chillier than it has been for the last couple of days.
Have a good day all.
