Yes this is correct. 0-11 is GAD normal anything over is positive.Just ask the precise result and have a pen ready to write it down. The results of the antibodies tests should be positive or negative for each specific antibody. If they only tested for GAD, there would be a number, I believe. Write down everything and ask for the units too, if appropriate.
What you mustn’t let them palm you off with is Fine, Normal, OK, “Doctor says it’s fine”, etc. Get numbers/results not comments!
@Inka Yes LADA . Sorry There maybe a chance i can use Metformin and carbs. As i've done quite well. Are you thinking that it has to be insulin now. I believe nurse said that Im producing some insulin .The fact that they’re sending you to hospital could mean a number of things but I’m wondering if the most likeliest of those things is that you’re not Type 2. Again, if you’re Type 1/LADA early introduction of insulin will preserve your remaining beta cells.
Early in diagnosis (Type 1) I could miss insulin and get results in the 3s. I wouldn’t worry so much about your blood glucose results because they won’t really be overly helpful if you’re cutting carbs anyway. If you are LADA, it’s best to get insulin in ASAP and eat normally.
Do post your results when they’re on the website 🙂
Does Diabetes UK help with LADA issues of this type ??![]()
I will take notes to the hospital appointment , listen and weigh up if i have a choice.
Sounds encouraging eg eat normally - whee 🙂 ..... my only concern is re driving and hypos. The fact that they’re sending you to hospital could mean a number of things but I’m wondering if the most likeliest of those things is that you’re not Type 2. Hi Im eating lo carb diet for 5 days with fringerprick tests . Then i'll introduce higher carbs for 5 days to see what happens. PS Im not sure if LADA is the same as type 1. In that its a mix. So i may have metformin as well as insulin as I am producing some insulin they sayI think if it was me, what would guide me is my normal diet. I would want to eat a normal healthy diet which was balanced. So, if I wasn’t able to do that on only Metformin, that would be when I considered insulin.
Low carb is only til the hospital appt. Im told that will be soon , but we;ll see. I queried it and think for sure the nurse was saying use lo carb and metformin for now. I'll see if @ David pops up.There are a number of people with LADA here @Jenny105 @DaveB is one, I think, but there are lots more. As I said, many simply call themselves Type 1. Even my consultant rarely uses the term LADA.
I’d take insulin personally. You must decide for yourself, of course. Personally, I don’t see the benefit of eating a restricted diet when insulin will help preserve your remaining beta cells. As @trophywench says, you can also then get used to it with small doses.
For driving, you inform the DVLA you’re on insulin. You then test your blood sugar before driving. There is guidance about what to do, so don’t worry about that. And yes, even if my blood sugar was fine, I’d often have a few extra carbs for a long journey. I also stop regularly and test.
