@Grannylorraine Happy Anniversary!

6.4 for me. Closer to my happy range than yesterday!

We're off to the theatre this afternoon - "An Inspector Calls". And, although in part we're going because youngest is studying it for GCSE, we're mostly going because we all love it. I was an English teacher before I was a midwife and it was always one of my favourites to teach (along with The Handmaid's Tale for my A-level students).

Daughter is back from university for her Easter Break so we're picking her up from the bus station after the performance.

It'll be lovely to have her back. I'm glad they're doing what they're doing but I miss them when they're away. Eldest is in his final year, he's staying away to work on his final project. He's written and is recording a radio drama based on Greek Myths and he's having to co-ordinate with his voice actors for the recording.

He's going to try and at least make it home for the Easter weekend so that will be lovely.

It's already glorious and warm here. Hope everyone has a lovely day.
 
6.2 this morning higher than normal, odd as I had less to eat yesterday and no supper, its our wedding Anniversary today 36 years so were having a meal out tonight at Miller and Carters never been before we have often said we would go but always found an excuse as its so expensive but this time hubby has said were going, so I need to get my glad rags on

Feeling a bit anxious at the moment and that keeps my BGs running high. Like @PattiEvans I’ve been awake since 4.30 with the ol’ internal monologue running constantly, mostly about nothing earth shattering. Had an emergency Zoom meeting last night with the people who look after our pension pot, they’re in the US where 80% of it is invested!😱 We’ve taken quite a hard hit and they were looking at ways to help. It’s all very complicated and I had a headache when that finished. It is what it is and like in the pandemic we have to roll with it. Still a worry when that is our only income. Roll on next year when we get our state pensions. Then I was fretting about youngest daughter, they’re definitely not moving on Monday, no firm completion date but could be two weeks! If that’s the case it’s the week before we go to the Isle of Harris for two weeks so we won’t be much help to them once they’re in. Then I was worrying about next weekend when we’re all at Center Parcs, the weather forecast isn’t good and of course it’s an outdoorsy holiday, not that I can do anything about that. But all these things are magnified 100% in the wee small hours aren’t they? Got up at 7am with a thick head which has now manifested into a migraine. I’ve taken some painkillers, which I don’t like to do on an empty stomach, but it’s stopped the aura at least so I can see my iPad now! My problem is I want to fix everything that’s wrong…. with the family, the world, in fact everything, and when I can’t, I stress! And breathe! Weather expected to be good again, until this evening then we’re forecast rain, thank goodness, the garden is so dry, so after a cooking morning, which helps me de-stress, making hummous today, chickpeas been soaked overnight, lamb kofta curry for tonight’s tea and sage and onion stuffing for tomorrow’s roast pork, I’m going to sit in the garden and read my book.

I’m amazed how many of you have Greek yoghurt for breakfast, I don’t think that would fill me, I’m always absolutely starving when I get up. I usually have one slice of homemade bread with either smooth peanut butter, one egg or bacon and egg, and one cup of black, sugarless tea. When I have bacon and egg, which is my Friday treat, I only have Carrs Water Biscuits for lunch, 6 yesterday, with cheese, 15 grms of carbs, and that was me until 6pm. Porridge is my nemesis, along with mashed potatoes, so never eat it, or any cereal in fact. I can’t eat nuts or seeds because of my gastric problem, or much fruit because of the same reason. I’m having PB on toast today when my BGs go into the fives. Could be a while! Still 6.9 after an hour! I take 7 units of bolus for one slice of toast! We’re all so different.

Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. I tend to stress about things I can't always fix and my brain starts whirring the minute I try to sleep.

Good morning all. Glorious weather again today. Remembered my tablets yesterday evening but I was still an 8 this morning. Disappointing! Had an early dinner of beef stir fry and only had coffee at the theatre.
Menopause 2 was brilliant. Hilariously funny we laughed all night. The auditorium was packed but we only spotted two men in the audience.
Been on the phone since breakfast catching up with friends. We are going out for lunch on Tuesday to a local pub. There menu is quite seasonal and we chose the options in advance as there are over 15 of us going. J rang to say the beef is not available. I had chosen beef ragu. Will have to choose another option.

@freesia we get the occasional fox visiting. Try a liberal dose of chilli powder round the base of your plants. It will deter mammals but shouldn't bother birds.

We are weeding under the fruit trees. Lots of cow parsley has self seeded. It needs reseeding with grass and the mild damp weather forecasted later this week will be ideal to get it germinated.

Morning all. A 4.8 for me earlier on another fine sunny day.
 
Well. 24NR wasn’t anywhere near enough earlier as my BS got stuck in the 16’s BUT, it DOES give me a better idea of what I need for all, or mostly, protein meals & that is 32 starting from breakfast & might need a bit lower when I don’t have an infection of maybe 28 or 30?

Will cook lunch now & will have scallops & broccoli in garlic soy sauce so, another mostly carb free meal. See what cooking does to my BS, can raise or lower it, & if I stay in the 16’s, for the last 90 minutes, go with 34NR & adjust lower if my BS goes down a bit?

I remember now that protein low carb meals my BS rises a bit & stays there for longer before coming down so, a different meal hill to the usual sharp pointy hills! It takes less NR though it’s just been a while since I cooked any before the shrimp & broccoli I cooked last week!

Re puppy being in season, on our woodland walk on Thursday we were speaking to a lady with three dogs, one was a 9 month old miniature Dachshund, she was wearing a nappy with doggy pants on top with braces. I asked why. She was in season and although her two other dogs were complete males they hadn’t made any attempt to “get” her. Brilliant idea I thought especially as she was teeny tiny and the consequences of a bigger dog impregnating her could be catastrophic.

That woman could be my wife as we have two miniature daschunds ( though you would never know by looking at them) and 2 of our dogs are male.There the similarity ends as our bitch is the eldest and definitely a matriarch who would soon put the boys in their place.
Also as an ex breeders bitch she retired at age 3 after giving birth to 16 puppies and 2 caesareans and was neutered.She found her forever home with us afterwards and has been living in official retirement since and she is now 10.

Happy Anniversary to you. Miller & Carter was always my go to restaurant, but our nearest one sank a few years ago. Enjoy your meal.

@silver minion i've made the garlic/chilli "infusion" (its now outside soaking as it has made the house stink!) And i shall also sprinkle chilli powder around. Thanks for the tip. The main problem is the squirrel so hopefully the garlic chilli will put him off digging too. It's made a few holes in the lawn, one quite big, we now need to fill and reseed so i'll be spraying it around that as well.
 
5.8 this morning for me.

Off to my parents this afternoon to help Dad sort his finances in preparation for moving to the care home. So far he seems to have accepted the idea and maybe even coming around to relief that his needs will be taken care of rather than continuing to struggle at home.

11.2 earlier on on a much more clement day, and for the first time in this sunny weather, a warm breeze!

I had a marketing email from Thornton's this morning, and I took the opportunity to get J a personalised egg; not as big as one I bought in the early years for her - that took her over a month to eat even though it was shared to everyone who liked ludicrously thick chocolate! Mind you, it was huge.
Funny enough we had been chatting about easter just recently, go to Thornton's or Lindt she hinted. Something I expect I'll forget and buy her another, then I'll find the original one again.

Good afternoon folks - the day dawned grey and lashing it down with rain and it hasn't improved a lot, though the rain has stopped. Tomorrow is forecast better. What we get here in the far west will no doubt travel east overnight as usual.

10.4 this morning, despite a much better night's sleep. I did wake a couple of times to visit the bathroom, but fell straight off to sleep again right away. @eggyg you definitely have my sympathies for the internal monologue, but take heart regarding Center Parcs, weather should improve again next week. Re; waking BG, can't wait to get off this damnable Omnipod 5!

Well I almost envy @freesia her squirrel. After lunch today we were standing in front of the french windows discussing how the vine on the right hand fence was so much further into leaf than the others when a very large rat waddled up the patio and stood there bold as brass. Ugh where there's one rat there's a whole nest full. Hubby immediately got in the car and went off to the local Farmer's supply store for rat poison. We know from experience that the stuff he got is very effective. We now daren't leave an outside door open when we leave the vicinity.

How horrible! I can almost appreciate the squirrel and fox now. Hopefully you can get rid of it/them quickly.

I know what you mean about leaving the door open though. We can't if we're not in the room as if the fox comes into the garden its been down close to the house and the squirrel has started coming close to the door, despite there being no food for it around. We also once had a cat wander in, i caught it sniffing around luckily just by the door.

A couple of years ago, the house next door was empty for a few months as the owner had died. A fox made its den in the garden and had a cub. We sat outside one evening and the fox jumped into the garden with her cub. They stayed for a few minutes, the cub sniffing around and the mother grooming herself, before disappearing back over the fence. I know some people around here put food out for them but i wish they wouldn't. At least people have moved in now so they won't be there again.

I've made up my chilli/garlic infusion and am ready to spray it around after i've watered the plants tonight. They'd better not try and dig up the tomatoes i've just planted!
 
afternoon was 6.2 on waking this morning

and was a welcome lay in for both of us today, been over to a nearby Tesco as had to sort out a new mobile contract for my wife

this afternoon have been to watch Northampton play at home to Reading (we drew 0-0)
the new fibre broadband was installed yesterday, but apparently were now waiting to be plugged in in a green box somewhere nearby.

Whilst I’ve been at the match Mrs @goodybags has been busy in the garden
It’s much tidier & starting to look quite tranquil

@freesia I'd not want foxes or squirrens in the house either... cute as they may be I believe they have fleas!

You lot have me thinking about breakfast. I rarely have any, only if I am going out for lunch and need to take pills that shouldn't be taken on an empty stomach. Then I'll have a slice of toast with marmite, but when I was first diagnosed I used to eat a couple of Ryvitas with butter and cold meat on them. I loved a bit of cooked chicken and they didn't spike me nearly as bad as a single small bit of toast!
