0 carbers? Carnivores?

I also have a diagnosed eating disorder which I have to fight daily. So the carb tracking and insulin calculations make it so much worse.

It’s a very tough situation for you. But if you aren’t taking the trurapi often I think that’s why your current insulin regime isn’t working - because you aren’t able to set the Toujeo high enough to also cope with meals. (trurapi is supposed to be dealing with the carbs in the meals you ate).

If carb counting and dose adjusting is triggering your eating disorder, and if you’ve had success with a mixed insulin in the past - then perhaps asking to try a mixed insulin again might be a better option for you? Then you just take twice a day, and have to eat regular meals the same times each day. Perhaps Humulin M3 would suit you, which isn’t an insulin analog, but a ‘human’ insulin.

Hope you are able to find a way forward at your appointment. You shouldn’t be struggling with debilitating leg pain on top of everything else you have to deal with!

Just to clarify.... A mixed insulin would mean that you need to eat 2 meals a day instead of just the one you eat now.

Yes, @Tuesday mentioned having had success with a (now discontinued) mixed insulin in the past, so should hopefully be able to move back to that sort of system.

They also prescribe it to use once a day with 1 meal, but at that time I was able to eat 2 meals a day.

I don't know how to ask for a premixed. I mean I know how but I have before and was just shut down. (By the dr). My pharmacist says there are some still available but that the newer insulins are favored now. And he refused to give any names of them. So i called a different pharmacy and was told that I had to be a customer to discuss meds with me.
How do I emphasize to my dr that I feel like I would do better with this kind of insulin? I've spoken to him about side effects to no avail.

You need to stress how unwell it is making you feel and that your quality of life was better with the mixed insulin and explain that with the digestive upset, you can only eat one meal a day and you have other things going on n your life including an eating disorder which all make the basal bolus system too challenging for you and you want to go back to mixed insulin because it is better for you as an individual. Maybe send the doctor an email, so that you can sit and compose it and explain everything and perhaps be more assertive in it about what you feel is best for you, having given the Toujeo and Trurapi a decent try. I know I find it really difficult to express myself over the phone and can feel rushed or intimidated especially if the person at the other end is in authority. Putting things down in writing enables me to include all the points that I want to get across and I can double and triple edit it until I feel it puts my point across as well as I can. On the phone it is too easy for the other person to control/dominate the conversation and you can easily get side tracked and forget about a key point. Even with my phone consultations, I always have a check list of things I want to discuss and I tell the consultant that at the start, so that he is aware that I have prepared for the appointment and made a list of things I need from it. After all, any doctor or nurse is there to support you as an individual, so they need to be listening to you. If the doctor refuses to change your insulin, ask them what their reasons are and are they listening to you issues and taking those into consideration. Their argument for you to remain on Toujeo has to be stronger than your argument to go back to mixed insulin which is badly affecting your quality of life. Stress that because it is really important. Ask for a second opinion if the doctor still refuses.

Good luck and I hope you can manage to start making some improvements in your life as it sounds really tough for you at the moment.

I like everything u said . Except that I'm reluctant to mention the eating disorder. Although I see how it fits in. Do u have a way I can ask all this with not mentioning the Ed?

Just Google the insulins that are available in Canada. It’s rubbish to say everyone has to use the newer ones. People should use what suits them as an individual. Newer isn’t automatically better.

If you only take a mixed insulin once a day, you might not get sufficient control of your blood sugar. Two meals, even if small, would probably be better.

I guess if I have to use it twice day I get the 'runs' twice a day. Which is really like up to 9 bathroom trips per meal.
And I can't do a thing to make it better. It's just what it is. Sad tho.

There are many diabetics who suffer with eating disorders, so I am not sure why you are reluctant to mention it. I was pretty much a sugar addict and habitual comfort eater pre-diagnosis and had been for A LOT of years! Going low carb helped me gain more control over it and eased the cravings considerably. It is helpful to be open and honest about it I think as it is part of the bigger picture of your circumstances and may help the doctor understand why you prefer mixed rather than separate, just as it has helped us understand your situation more. I am guessing me wittering on about vegetables was wasting my time and not helping you, so once you said you struggled with eating disorders it made it easier to suggest things that might be more helpful.
Can you explain why you are worried about telling the doctor?

Mainly because he seems to not want me as a patient. It's not anything I'm doing or have done(I hope anyway) but that the Dr's here are complaining about the paperwork. I'm not sure that's it here in my case but I give him alot to do in the appts. And he had actually requested, twice now, that I find another dr. And he can't just make me get a new dr. So since then I've been trying to make easy appts. It's not up to me to be concerned with all that but there is no other dr to see. There are walk in clinics but they won't deal with insulin. Covering their own butts I guess? So adding the ed and diarea issues in the mix will make for alot more complications in the appts.
and I don't want to be forced in treatment for the ed.
But I will consider it.

Both of those thing do impinge on your diabetes management so you should try to mention then when you have your appointment.
I'm not sure how a doctor can advise on appropriate treatment when they don't know the whole situation, they are flying blind.

I called in a request for an insulin change. Even tho my appointment is next week. I'm hoping to use the week to see how it goes then be able to say how it's going in an appointment. Without having to make an extra call.

Looks like I'm approved for novolin 30 70 premixed insulin.
Idk any details yet. I'm waiting for the delivery of it. Now I just need to figure out a few things. Like if it's for 2x a day what I will eat for the first dose. Considering that if I have to go out of the house I can't eat anything. Considering I have barely the food funds. For a second meal. Considering that I'm fighting to keep my weight loss off.
But I have no details yet.
I'm just happy that I won't need to deal with leg pain from the other insulin and can let up on calculations.
And actually when I was on novolin 40 60 a few years ago it made me more careful with my catbs and how much food I ate. So that the dose would cover the carbs and still give me good numbers.
It's too easy as an b/p eating disordered person to just say o well I can have all I want I can eat my weeks groceries in one swoop because I will just cover it with my rapid insulin. So now that temptations gone. Well but it's different now with the less funding but anyway.

Great to hear you have managed to change your insulin back to a mixed insulin even if it is only on a temporary basis to see how you get on. Really hope you find it beneficial. Sometimes one small change can set the ball rolling for more improvements, so really keeping fingers crossed for you.

Does anyone have any small meal suggestions for 0 teeth but not loaded with sugars? For a first meal? I don't consume grains or fruits.

A tin of tuna, drain and mix in some freshly ground pepper, add the same sort of volume of coleslaw, maybe a splash of vinegar.

Yoghurt, baked beans with scrambled egg, any tinned fish like sardines or mackerel, but you probably need to have some carbs if you are now going to be taking a mixed insulin.

Not sure that suitable for Novolin mixed insulin due to the lack of carbs.
