Let's be boring and talk bicycles!

I haven’t ridden a drop bar bike for years, but I have a theory that straights are an unnatural position for our arms/wrists whereas drops on the hoods or the drop are parallel to your body. Just look how your arms swing when you walk, yet straight bars switch thru thru 90°. Try walking like that.

I have found that my wrist ache earlier and earlier on straights as I get older. Just a few miles now.

Does it look like I’m talking myself into a change?😉

Yes! Most important thing for me is that the bike fits me properly. My fixed is quite hardcore. Shortened straight bars and just one hand brake.

Ah yes, the search for perfect minimalism. I still suffer from that. Everything from apps to gears on bikes. In another world it would be called OCD - not said jokingly.

Very nice!!! I bought my PDQ at the same time as my old cycling buddy. I didn't, and still don't, particularly like mine. He, however is now on his 3rd ICE trike and I've gone back to conventional.

I looked at an third wheel attachment for the front of my wheelchair. It used hand cranks. However the company wanted over £3k for what looks like a slight modified cut down bike. The usual rio off the disabled attitude! :(

I knew a hand cranker from my old cycle club. His machine was incredibly specialized and really light! And that was a few years ago. I can't imagine how much things might have improved!

Now that is impressive! Do I need to invest in a trike? Tandem trike? We have tried one at the York Rally a few years ago.

I only have two bikes.

A decathlon drop bar alu road bike and 90s steel rigid mtb flat bar. I use the road bike for long rides and the clunker for commuting and pootling around.

This is John Bonham's headstone, with my road bike in the background against the church wall.

And the clunker at the top of Bredon Hill

John Bonham, apparently, thumped the bass drum so hard that he managed to move Dave Mattacks kit ( of Fairport fame) across the stage. This could lead anywhere!

Ah, I am far less adventurous than all the above - blame a torn meniscus. My bike of choice is the static one by the front door. Every morning and every evening I pedal away ... to nowhere.

A torn meniscus sounds bad so you're doing well. I really like spinning my turbo. Especially as it seems the weather is getting wetter and windier.

I find static cycling really boring, can't really take it for more than half an hour or so. The thing I most enjoy is taking new lanes I haven't been before and finding beautiful hidden sights.

There seem to be quite a few of us cycling aficionados in here. I imagine we live all over the country, so the logistics might be tricky, but it would be nice to organise a group ride at some point.

So did I until I found Zwift.
Now I can cycle up the hills of Innsbruck or race through the streets of London or do a workout through Japanese villages. It keeps me more entertained than just mindless spinning.
There is even a diabetes meet up on Saturday afternoons. I joined a few hundred of them from around the world on a group ride one Diabetes Week.
