Group 7-day waking average?

Hi all

6.8 this morning. Enjoying a nice couple of nights in the Lake District.

I messed up last night, had a meal which I had taken insulin for and then decided to walk a fell when the insulin was at its peak, the thought of the insulin being at its peak hadn’t even crossed my mind.

Half way up the fell I started to feel a bit shakey so checked my cgm and it read 4 with a downwards arrow. Took 4 glucose tablets, sat for 15 minutes and set off back down.

I didn’t make it to the top, I must plan better. This is all new to me so it was a lesson.
I’m on a walking holiday in the Alps at the moment, I find it a real problem, if i’m walking when insulin is at peak action, I reduced my dose for my lunchtime picnic today, and still had to chug jelly babies an hour or so later. I set my CGM alarm to 5.6, so I have time to head a hypo off at the pass, before I've dropped low enough to have symptoms. Symptoms when I’m walking involve tripping over my own feet/walking poles, not a good idea on a rocky mountain path.

Been there done that. I like to climb the odd fell, I live in Cumbria so they’re handy. It’s rare I don’t go low and do hypo even when I’ve thought I’d got it right. But like you I always have hypo remedies with me. Maybe next time set your CGM low alarm higher than usual, say 5. That’ll give you some time to sort things before you hypo. It helps to reduce your morning basal too if you’re going hiking. One thing some don’t realise is if you’ve exercised in the last 24-48 hours that could affect your BGs the following day. Have you done a DAFNE course or equivalent? If not ask to go on one, that was an eye opener for me re exercise. Don’t let it put you off though, and always have lots of snacks with you, especially if it’s warm. Happy hiking.

It was a whopping 13.2 for me this morning despite lots of swimming and walking yesterday including an evening walk after dinner and I was low 4.1 at bedtime so I had a very small "button" of shortbread that would be lucky to be 5g carbs, but my evening meal must still have been digesting and my levels rose steadily through the night and I somehow slept through the high alarm, so it was a bit of a disappointing start to the day. Jabbed 8 units of Fiasp as soon as I woke up plus my Levemir and went for a 1.5 mile walk and then went for a swim and did 30 lengths of the little spa pool before breakfast and that brought it down in time for a yummy hotel breakfast of berry compote with yoghurt and a tiny sprinkle of muesli followed by full English. Still needed 2.5 units despite another 1.5 mile walk after breakfast and then the rest of the morning explori ng the house and gardens at Cragside National Trust property which I have been to several times before and absolutely love. Anyway, that was my holiDAY! Weather was perfect if a little hot at times, but would have been equally hot at home and I would have been working in it, so not complaining. Not read through everyones's posts so hope all OK and no one has had any disasters and fingers crossed that @PattiEvans is now home safe and sound and had a smooth journey.

7.1 today very early on, couldn't get back to sleep so I got up before head monologue got at me. I left the OH kipping and snoozing.

It was cloudy when I arose but cleared then clouded, now it's a clear blue sky just in time for a meal. We have been eating snacky foods all day, trying to ward off a hypo with in-between walks and general exercise, think I have just about done it and they're on the way up.

The builder came late today (I was pre-warned) at 2-30pm telling what was planned for tomorrow, namely a skip & a delivery of sand. Look's like he's going to get on tomorrow. We've cleared the back bedroom window and kitchen window in readiness for double-glazing and building work in the coming days. All go here.

We got the big-fan from the cellar and put it on - the room is feeling cool, just in time for the next few days heat.

Been planning the weekend jollities.

Congratulations to @Martin.A , @khskel & @Pam123 on today’s HS.

Hope you all have a good evening and a peacefully cool night.

Good evening folks. Phew what a scorcher today has been. Started off at 8.8 this morning. Don't know if it was the gooseberry fool we had after a lamb wrap for dinner.
Got a few more plants in the border and some weeding before it go too hot. Laundry and lots of watering pots and veggies this afternoon.

Congratulations to the HS trio @Martin.A @khskel and @Pam123
Lovely paintings @ColinUK and to those of you on holiday keep posting those photos

Chilling out for the rest of the day. Catch up with you tomorrow. Take care and keep cool.😎

Hi eggy, thanks for the reply.

I am just over the Border so travelling to the Lakes is easy for us, been doing it for years.

I haven’t done a DAFNE, I will ask about that. I haven’t been told much about insulin use and exercise.

I probably could have carried on yesterday to the top of the fell after I had taken the glucose tablets but the anxiety and worry of it all made me just go back down. I won’t let this put me off, I will just try and be more prepared

Morning and a 6.2 after a wee hours low and up early as busy day.
So dogs walked and then have to drop them off at their “ jollies” which they love as we enjoy our little Cotswold break for a few days.
Have not planned the drive just jump in the car and meander down just no motorways.
Really looking forward to it but did have a nice day yesterday but very local.
Anyway preparations to do so will sign offf now and wish you all a nice rest of week

Hope you enjoy your break @Wendal

The DF was kind to me last night and I woke up with a HS after a not too bad sleep. Just had a quick jaunt round the woods with the dog as its supposed to hit 30 degrees today.

Stay cool everyone.

Morning all, 7.2 here, and some himalayas overnight. That’ll be last nights Tiramisu.
Was looking for a flattish rock to eat our picnic yesterday and nearly trod on an Edelweiss. This was the view from our lunch spot.

Good morning - and what a beautiful one it is. 6.6 this morning.

Not sure what happened yesterday - I forgot the morning measurement and completely forgot to take my drugs. By way of an excuse, we had to have our cylinder removed, so my mind was elsewhere....I guess

5.3

So close!

Morning all. 5.9 at the unearthly hour of 5.45. Wish I could lie in.

Going to be a bit warmer today than yesterday, which is good when you’ve little ones to keep safe. Eden, 17 months, had her first walk, no buggy involved, to the river. It’s only minutes away from our house, she toddled down the hill all excited, carried her across the busy A6, toddled to the kissing gate which she loved going through. A bit of a carry over the rough farm land which was full of cows which she was very excited about, Zara not so much! Onto the bridge to play Pooh sticks, waved at three trains and back home. She wasn’t too keen on walking back up the hill! But all in all she did very well and held our hands all the way.

Today is a busy cooking day, I’ll do it this morning as it going to be at least 21 degrees up here! Phew! 😉 We’ve decided to have our first BBQ of the year, can’t do it tomorrow or Saturday as we’ve things on and Sunday it’s going to be about 28 degrees, not good for standing over red hot coals. Just the two of us, got some steak mince to make us a burger each and I’m going to marinade some chicken wings in Piri Piri spices etc, part cook them in the oven and chuck on the coals to get the BBQ flavour ie burnt! I’m not a huge fan of outdoor cooking but Mr Eggy likes to take the meats I’ve prepared ( along with the shopping for them and the salads etc) thump his chest like Tarzan and take credit for the burnt offerings! He doesn’t get out much so I let him do this a couple of times a year!o_O

Have a thrilling Thursday folks. Have a lovely break Mr and Mrs @Wendal. Congratulations @Lisa65 on your HS. @Robin just gorgeous, I broke into a song when I saw the edelweiss, I’m no Julie Andrews though.

Morning all. 🙂 Clickety-click, 6.6.

A nice start to my 17th diaversary. Diagnosed after my GP sent me to A&E with typical symptoms - high BG, weight loss, thirsty, peeing for Wales, thrush, a cough I couldn’t shift. My brothers thought it was hilarious - ‘juvenile’ diabetes at the age of 41, hahaha. Thanks guys.

It’s wall-to-wall sunshine here already! Best get these dogs walked.

Aw, so sweet @eggyg - enjoy the BBQ.

Wow-ee @Robin - a picnic with one hell of a view.

“Happy” Diaversary. Have cake! I’m coming up to 15 years, I can’t believe it. But we’re still here to tell a tale of two, and that’s what matters.
