How are you all finding the food situation, are you stil managing to find anything healthy and low carb?I have a small chest freezer so haven't got the scope to hoard too much food, and I have to provide for my bedbound mum and son when he's here,I have chicken and vegetables and home made curries and loads of other stuff, but it wont last all that long.
So the next thing is long life foods and finding anything low carb I have tins of corned beef, tuna and I'm not supposed to have them but I have about 50 tins of baked beans as my mum and son like them and they are cheap and easy although full of carbs but if needs must I will eat them,I just hope I can get to the shop and still get eggs and milk for mums porridge on a regular basis but I have no idea if I will be locked down with mum and will I be able to get a home delivery. My mum is 81 and is bedbound with dementia so I'm worried about her,and we have 8 carers visiting each day so the virus could come to my home easily
I hope you're all ok

I think it’s a real shame that some people have artificially caused these shortages by panic buying.

I suppose it’s understandable when people are worried that they might have to spend a few days inside at short notice (a bit like the pre-Christmas panic that come over some folks every year) but it seems to me that the empty shelves shown on every news bulletin have driven a lot of others who would normally ignore such silliness to buy in bulk.

We have a fairly modest store cupboard and haven’t bought any more than normal, but I still reckon with the food and snacks in cupboards and freezer we could feed the 3 of us for a week or two if we just ate everything here.

No tea after the milk ran out would be rough though! 😱

I notice the supermarkets have started to crack down on excess purchases, so hopefully the worst of that madness is behind us.

Perhaps we should treat it as an opportunity to try new foods? 😛

Yes it's about time the supermarkets rationed items, although people can get around that I suppose if shopping with family members and they could still pop in a few times a day every day🙄,I was chatting to one of the wokers in Sainsburys yesterday and he said the limit for toilet roll was 5 packs,I said no wonder the shelves are empty every time I come in here,he agreed and said it should be 2

The supermarket near me has no bread at all - presumably because people have been buying lots and freezing it. I’d naively popped in to buy a loaf for the week.

Lots of the meat/fish had gone too, but there were lots of packs of cheese.

I visited Tescos late last night to their superstore and the place had been cleaned out, even the frozen vegetables that have something like a 6 metre display had been completely cleaned out,the shop looked as if it had ben looted,I asked one of the staff about trade a few days ago and he said the last 2 weeks had been like peak Christmas trading every day

I have heard that the supermarkets are finding it worse than Christmas. We had two rolls of loo paper left as we were both working and despite there being 5 local supermarkets nowhere had any by 8:30 AM let alone 6PM... so finally we both got up work early yesterday and bought some. I have started to keep (not recycle) the local papers too (just in case)!

Foodwise again we don't have the capacity to store like doomsday preppers but I have plenty of tuna and some frozen veg and berries. I am hoping that I will be able to get some foodstuff after work this week, my other dilemma is money as I may not have any income if we end up on 'lock down'. That old food or bills conundrum!

I suppose any tinned goods is the best bet. I have a packet (500g) of wholemeal pasta and as we are limited on the measures we can have that should last months! What I am actually doing is buying a ton of fresh foods and salads because who knows how long I may be stuck on the not-so-nice tinned goods!
Another idea for people with space and means is to spend some time batch cooking so you have access to some lovely frozen meals over the coming weeks.

Called in Morrisons today for few things, fruit & veg shelves almost cleared no chicken other meats in short supply, beans pasta bread absent, surprisingly plenty toilet roll on shelf.

Ridiculous selfish behaviour, few older folk shopping looking puzzled by situation.

Just shopping as normal, will continue to do so despite hysteria.

Have you a convenience type store near by. Round the corner from me we had a One Stop it has recently been refitted out and become a Tesco Express, it seems to be so far reasonable stocked.

It was mad in Stretford Aldi today. I felt quite scared. The virus isn't scaring me, I think I've already had it, but the anarchy and greed is horrendous. I only shopped for son as his health is dire otherwise I wouldn't bother. I told Mum There's no food! She said well never mind, we'll get thin. Always looks on the bright side. :D

@Ditto the shoppers at the weekend were scary. It was like a mass race in every aisle. My experience of evening shopping has been a lot less manic. I think things change when you use a basket or just hands (as I did the other day) people don't attempt to ram you out the way because they can see you're not the one who is about to panic buy.

I also think some of the foods which are suitable for us are the ones that get left on the shelves. There were no eggs the other day and everyone has stocked up on bread and pasta but you can still get wholemeal pasta! 😉

its absolutely daft all this panic. I blame the media! A WHOLE morning by the BBC the other day on breakfast tv followed by that Derbyshire woman, all harping on and on for hours - its worse than the brexit coverage - They are inducing this hysteria. With their alarmist statements, the intense wordage they use. Im sick of it all.

We are just doing our normal weekly shop, I get what i can get and if i cant get, i go without or use something else. no problem. . You know what they say.... a nation is only 3 meals away from anarchy!

I've got a 10 kilo bag of jasmine rice I bought before diagnosis and its mostly full, so if worst comes to worst, on my new 800 calorie regime I reckon I can last six months off that bag 🙂 seriously though, local ASDA was cleared of a bunch of weird things like pasta and beans, but tinned meats and soups were still there. I plan on stocking some soup up over next week as I think Universities will be on lockdown very soon.

I am unable to get to a supermarket, so I always shop online. After my last delivery, I have around three weeks of food, possibly longer. Milk and eggs aren’t a problem at the local shop, they come from local farms. Most importantly, I can choose delivery dates nearly a month ahead. I think I can ride this idiocy out.

It’s utter madness all this panic buying . I shop online and now the delivery slots are virtually non existent . I feel really sorry for the front line staff in stores as they are taking the brunt of it, in my teens I worked in a Lipton’s supermarket and was shocked at the behaviour of some people, I dread to think what it must be like now.

I have about three weeks food etc in , no panic buying here , since early January I’ve just bought a couple of extra cans or packs of the things I normally buy.
I’ve got 2 packs of 9 loo rolls I would normally have one pack .

Oops did I say no panic buying here well um all except for Libre sensors that is , I bought more last week even though I still had 4 left in my cupboard.

I have a full tank of petrol two full fridges and a full freezer.
Am I expecting to be cut off for months - no - but my fifth grandchild is expected this coming Wednesday - so I hope to be able to cope with whatever happens in the next week or so.

I believe skimmed and semi skimmed milk freezes quite well (Not full fat though, as our domestic freezers are not sufficiently low for the fat content to solidify properly). May be worthwhile getting a few single pint cartons and trying that, as a back up.

I'd got a delivery from Tescos a couple of weeks ago. I've still got some of that. (Baked beans were mission. Got the chicken, even though sheet said that was missing.)
I've popped into Aldi and Morrisons (next to bus station) for a couple of things, and not noticed anything. Though I'm stocked up on toilet paper, so not been looking for that.
