Availability of food

I can say with absolute certainty that Tesco food distribution centre near me is working at a greater capacity than at Chritstmas, how do I know this? My hubby's 8 hr shifts are being ask to work 12 hr shifts to keep up with demand. No issue in the supply chain only greedy morons who strip the shelves bare. Tesco daughter works in is now not open 24 hrs to allow restocking with out staff being abused and physically attacked (my daughter has only suffered verbal abuse to which she told me she doesn't argue or try and reason with them, she just stands and looks at them until they walk away)

I know known of you are blaming the supermarkets. But they are doing everything they can, until greedy morons get it through there thick skulls to stop panicking buying we will continue like this, but I suspect they won't, I actually don't know where people are finding the space to store al this stuff, I am sure some people must have as much stock in their living rooms as the shops.

I believe skimmed and semi skimmed milk freezes quite well (Not full fat though, as our domestic freezers are not sufficiently low for the fat content to solidify properly). May be worthwhile getting a few single pint cartons and trying that, as a back up.

Not everyone one has large freezers.
 
It's not the supermarkets fault, it's greedy daft peoples only thinking of themselves but they're scared, they've seen all the apocalypse movies! So have I! I luvs them. :D I luv the bit in World War Z where Brad Pitt holds his hands up in the supermarket as a cop is headed his way but the cop passes him and heads for the meds. Got to get our priorities right. 🙂

A friend spent two hours trying to source toilet rolls. I might start looking for decent dock leaves and stockpile them.
 
Just done my usual weekly shop, in Sainsbury’s in the big town half an hour away, (we normally go there once every few weeks to do a bigger shop, of things our local co-op doesn’t stock) Was amazed at 10am to find loads of cars driving out of the car park, normally at that time it’s all inwards.
Check out lady told us they’d had people queueing outside at 7am when they opened. Teabags and biscuits/sweets seemed to be the latest thing to be in short supply, people expecting to work from home, maybe?
Got everything I needed, including frozen peas, which I couldn’t get locally. Except 85% or 90% dark chocolate, shock horror!
I didn’t need pasta, looroll or soap, Prudence being my middle name (not really) I’ve always got a few weeks of everything in over the winter in case we get snowed in (we live at the top of a steep hill, it’s not so much getting out, as getting back in that’s the problem)
 
Grandad bussed it through to the next town this morning as we get our shopping fresh daily (he wont stay in until he has to and he's not worried in the slightest even though he's 87 with asthma and been bothered by chest infections this last few months, we cant stop him if he doesn't want to) managed to get ham and a 4 pack soap at Aldi, got me bread, hot chocolate, brussel sprouts, oxo at Tesco and managed to forget the tea for tonight so off he went back on the next bus for our fish, asked him if he could get tomorrow's chicken as we usually get that at Lidl in our town but all weekend they have been empty of stock and have posted that there is a problem with their deliveries and they haven't received today's ambient etc, got the fish at Tesco but had to go back over to Aldi who thankfully had chicken, times wouldn't be so hard if I still didn't get the fear of eating untested things but that's the effect eating disorders have unfortunately xx
 
Just got back from doing our weekly shop (went with the idea...if i can get what i want, great, if not, i will go for anything else and cook meals to that shopping bag instead). Managed to get all items except chicken and eggs. Literally one manky squashed 'last chicken in the shop' was sitting there, all alone, poor thing! ....of course, no loo rolls, kitchen roll, the latter is a luxury and in days gone by we never used it anyway!. But all in all not a bad shopping experience, I didnt see anyone hoarding in their trolleys. Good!!
 
@grovesy - I appreciate that fact, But i was just putting a little info out there. Someone may find it useful to know.

My other half went to our Sainsburys for 7 on Saturday he said there were at least 100 queuing for them to open.
 
I went to Asda this morning, only because I wanted a couple of things that Tesco don't stock. OMG it was manic, Tesco has been quiet every time I’ve been in recently, Asda was crazy though and I had to queue for 20 minutes at the checkout! Absolutely no loo roll, or eggs, or UHT milk, or painkillers, or rice, or pasta (except for spaghetti, why does nobody like spaghetti?! Well I prefer penne or something but I’ll eat spaghetti if that's what's there). Very little soap, or tinned beans of any variety, or tinned tomatoes or tomato purée. But I got most of what I wanted, only uht milk I couldn't and we've got some to be going on with and can always rough it and have fresh milk if we have to! I think they put some more loo roll out while I was queuing at the till, but I really couldn't be bothered to go round again just to get some, I’ll try another shop another day! Where are all these hoarders putting all this stuff?! Madness!
 
Popped into Morrisons this morning. (had to go out on other business. It's unusual for me to do shops in the moring.) (Small for a Morrisons, it used to be a Netto.)
Staff said it was busy for a Monday morning. It was easy enough to get round and served. The thing I did notice was the toilet roll and tissues shelves where completly empty.
 
No paracetamol or UHT milk or loo roll. Couldn't shop until after work. Picked up 1 bag of frozen fish/chicken and blueberries. Products limited to 4 of each. But of course probably some early bird shoppers who may have picked up 4x toilet paper and gone back in! Feel very sorry for anyone in retail at moment. There are no fist fights with evening shoppers but lots of bewildered looks at empty aisles. Good job I don't eat as much food as I used to!
 
I got Paracetamol in my local Pharmacy, which is where I usally buy, though instead of the shelf being full it was quite bare.
I had noticed that no Supermarket I had been in had any .

I worked in retail for 10 years and you can meet some rude entitled people at the best of times,mostly lovely people though
 
We've got a Sainsburys delivery coming tomorrow that we booked last week. We tried to book another one for next week to be prepared but Sainsburys have nothing til at least the 2nd week in April, whicb is as far ahead as you could book.

Our local Tesco has been pretty good with fresh stuff. Loo rolls, normal bread, tins were pretty much gone but I got mostly everything I need. If I can keep in fresh stuff we'll be alright.
 
Our big Sainsbury’s had no eggs whatsoever, so ended up popping into Aldi’s. They had quite a few eggs, so that was okay! Phew! Mind you, some eggs stated that they were from caged birds, so I avoided those and made up my mind that if those were the only ones to be had, then I’d go without. No way was I getting eggs from caged birdies. Luckily, I got free range ones.

I noticed that the toothpaste aisle was looking a big rummaged through and for some odd reason, when I walked into Aldi’s, there were two pineapples lying on the floor and no one had picked them up! So I did (pick them up, that is). 😳🙄🙂
 
This is when home cooking from scratch comes into its own. Thee people who strip shelves bare sometimes with food that they are never going to use really annoy me. Learn to cook and freeze!. For instance, I bought an oven ready chicken from Aldi, roasted it in my air fryer and it was enough for three meals, a curry, and I made a delicious soupw ith the carcass, and the chicken was under £3!
 
I have seen a few people posting on Facebook not only are there no a distant slots for online shopping. Some have had orders cancelled. Some said they then went to book Click and Collect slots, and there were none available either.
