Wordle - Quordle Thread

Another mixed bag of luck, leading to a pretty mediocre result (5+22+67=94). Lucky to finish Octordle in particular.

I had a really good day today although I did work quite hard to achieve it. ie. I sat and pondered a lot and waited for the cogs to slowly turn until the light bulb came on.

Wordle in 3
Quordle 7 6 3 5 = 21
Octordle for 51

Gives me a total of 75

I was doing quite well until I hit the last word in Quordle with three possibilities and three lives, so of course the first two were wrong.
Wordle in 4
Quordle in 6,5,3,9 = 23
Octordle in 60
Total 87

Slightly better luck than yesterday (3+21+57=81).

I was obviously aiming for a record breaking maximum score today after my win yesterday, just to maintain my consistent inconsistency!

Wordle in 5
Quordle 9 6 8 7 = 30
Octordle for 70

Gives me 105

I got wordle in 6 so wasn't going to post but finished other 2 so why not?
Wordle 6
Quordle 8654.
Octordle 72 = 101 (scary I studied 1984 at school).
For years my sister and I have done wordle (and squareword ) and emailed each other. She usually wins.
My question is how do you choose your start word. I choose a different one each day but am thinking of reusing some or changing once a week. She has used the same word (audio) from the start

Just seen this. Does that mean everyone for the week uses that as a start word? It's it just on wordle or for other 2 too?
This choice is just for the weekly challenge on Quordle, which opens up on a Monday if you correctly solve the normal one. It’s just this puzzle that we use the same starting word, chosen by last weeks winner.
Otherwise, we use our own starting words. Funnily enough, my and my son's starter for Wordle has always been Audio.

Whoever wins the Quordle Weekly Challenge (the special puzzle released on Monday on Quordle if you complete the daily Quordle) nominates the word that we use to start the next week's Quordle Weekly Challenge. So Rob won last weeks Weekly challenge so he has nominated the word AFTER that we will al use on the Quordle Weekly Challenge this coming week.... ie tomorrow if we manage to complete Quordle tomorrow.
We all have our own sequence of starting words for the daily Wordle, Quordle, Octordle puzzles. Rob clearly has a magic combination of starting words, because he almost always wins.
I have a set word that I start with and Robin and I play hard mode on Wordle so once we have letters we have to use them, whereas some people use an elimination word to either get more letters or eliminate some if there are lots of options. If I get nothing from my first word in Wordle then I have a choice of 2 words that I use next. Some letters cobine frequently with a limited number of other letters so those can be useful. For instance H is often combined with C G P S T and W so if you have H in your starting word in second or last position, it is likely to be one of those letters next to it. So I use an elimination word that combines as many of those letters as possible with some vowels I haven't used to try to pin it down. No doubt your sister uses AUDIO because it will give or eliminate most of the vowels. Some people use ADIEU for the same reason.

Once you use the same word regularly, you start to see patterns where certain letters from it in certain positions will give you a good idea of what the word might be or maybe a choice of just 2 or 3 words.
What I find hard when doing the Weekly Challenge with a "new" word, is that I get half way through and assume I have already used the letters from my regular starting word and therefore discount them if they aren't in a word, even when it looks like they should be, which can lead me down a blind alley if I am not paying close attention.

Anyway, hopefully that answers your question. Basically we all do the daily's as normal tomorrow with whatever starting word we like, but if we complete Quordle that gives us the opportunity to do the Quordle Weekly Challenge which you can access by clicking the gold star on the blue background, and then we all use AFTER this week as the starting word for that Weekly Challenge puzzle.

After another interrupted night I took them slowly through the morning with at least an hour between each. Usually I go downhill but today I improved with each game.

Wordle to the wire for 6 (even though I had four letters after two goes!)
Quordle in 7 for 22 (4, 7, 6, 5)
Octordle 11 for 53

Total Score 81!
