What our your top ten films of all time?

Well no one seems to have said "Dead Poets Society" yet, so I'll have to.
Oh what a great great choice @everydayupsanddowns .. "Dead Poets Society " is my list of the top ten favourite films of the nineteen eighties. It's a powerful and thought provoking drama with a brilliant central performance from Robin Williams as the teacher John Keating....and let's not forget one of his students is a young Matt Damon.

I agree with Silence of the Lambs - and I'm not so keen on either version of 'Manhunter'. I struggle with 'Pretty Woman': Julia Roberts is such a good actor and makes the film very seductive - but the reality is that it glamorises prostitution.
I think that's the only problem I have with "Pretty Woman " @CliffH . But having the likes of Richard Gere and the gorgeous Julia Roberts(and yes I did develop a major crush on her )in the film makes it such a fun film to watch....and I also notice what you've said about The "Silence of the Lambs" and "Manhunter"..Many critics believe Michael Manns "Manhunter" to be a superior film to "Silence of the Lambs" but that's not a fair comparison in my opinion. The late (god bless him) Jonathan Demme did a absolutely brilliant job with this film...but then he did have a simply terrific screenplay by the talented Ted Tally and a brilliant cast in the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins,Jodie Foster,Scott Glenn and Ted Levine at his disposal.

I forgot Love Actually! I'm only reminded of films when I come on this thread. Also anything with Robin Williams, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis in it. Too many to mention. Usually all top notch.

There are films you can just watch any time, over and over, like Dead Again and Star Wars. Also The Burbs, laugh like a drain every time Tom Hanks comes down that stoop. :D

Also Oblivion, I watch it every time it's on, same with ... I want to say Attack Force Z but that's Mel Gibson, the zombies one, I absolutely luvs it. I'm so weird.

anything with tom hanks <3 in it

I'd couldn't bring myself to watch a film with 'chicks' in the title.
Whenever my mother tells me that she doesn't think that I'll like a particular film because it's "a chick flick", I want to point out that actual chicks can be of either gender 🙄.

I've been a film critic since the mid nineteen nineties and in that time I've seen so great films and some truly awful films...so with that in mind I would like to ask you my dear friends what are your top favourite films of all time..to start off here's my top ten...
1.Avatar
2.Suspiria(The original 1977 version directed by Italian master of horror Dario Argento and not the horrible 2018 remake)
3. Gladiator
4. Brief Encounter
5. Don't Look Now
6. Goodfellas
7. Tenebrae(Another Dario Argento classic...this time from 1982)
8. The Deer Hunter
9. Mona Lisa (Neil Jordans brilliant 1986 film with a wonderful Oscar nominated performance from the late and sorely missed Bob Hoskins)
And...
10. Jackie Brown(my favourite Quentin Tarantino film...and easily one of his best)

Well there you have it...that's my best of list..what's yours?

I look forward to reading your lists.

The Shawshank Redemption
Back to the Future
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King

Some excellent choices here @Ditto. I've got "The Burbs" on Arrow BLU-RAY and it's still a sidesplitting funny film and you're right about Tom Hanks coming over that stoop..he's so brilliant and funny in that film.

Black Hawk Down
Alien (horror film set in space...not sci-fi)
Fifth Element
Silence of the Lambs
The Matrix
The Full Monty
The Green Mile
Snatch
Heat
Avatar

No particular order but just as they popped into my mind. Lots more I could add. As someone else mentioned we could probably pick a top ten from each decade.

Shoot out in Heat was breathtaking, never seen anything like it before or after, didn't see it in cinema but sound must have been incredible.

"Heat" is one of my top ten favourite films of the nineteen nineties @nonethewiser and that shootout is absolutely incredible...and bear this in mind this shootout had to be shot in one continuous take.

Bridget jones its on now

I like that and the 'Baby' one - but not the one set in Thailand.
I agree with you @CliffH. I like the original "Bridget Jones Diary" and "Bridget Jones Baby"but the one set in Thailand is where they were starting to run out of ideas..and thus the quality of the film was much lower.

Not many animated movies listed so I will add Belleville Rendez Vous.
With very little dialogue it initially seems simplistic but there is some great imagery for a sinister story.

What a great choice @helli. "Belleville Renez Vous" is one of the best pieces of animation I've ever seen...it's absolutely beautiful...and it would definitely be in my list of the best animated films of all time.. Others in that list would include...
"The Lion King"
"Watership Down"
"My Neighbour Totoro"
"How to Train Your Dragon "
and
"Sprited Away"

'Yellow Submarine' is my favourite animated film. I was very disappointed with 'Bright Eyes' when I saw it at the cinema, after having really enjoyed Art Garfunkel's song.

That's another one of my favourite animated films @CliffH...I just love the animation in it.

There are some films so bad they are “good.” “B movie” parodies that to some can be distasteful.
The crowd funded, Iron sky.
Snakes on a plane. (Originally a spoof trailer with so much interest they needed to make it.
Cocaine bear. Based on a myth.
Mars attacks. With a host of stars just having a stupidly good time out of the usual “type casting?”
