What are you reading?

Finished Doughnuts and Deception, I find this series of books an easy read.
Now started Cruel Tides by Maria Adolfsson.

Won't be everyone's cup of tea but I've been on a bit of a "non-fiction" kick recently and am currently reading "Blood and Guts: A History of Surgery" by Richard Hollingham, which if you're interested in anything medical is absolutely fascinating! I read in the foreword that there was a BBC documentary to go alongside it, but I haven't seen it yet 🙂

Finished Hidden Scars, I didn't suspect the twist at the end.
Now started The Mark by Matt Brolly.

Another slow week reading. Latest read is Stop Them Dead by Peter James, the Roy Grace series. I thought I was caught up with them but I must have missed a couple as there’s been loads of big changes in the characters’ personal circumstances. It’s ok, I’m not precious about reading books in order but I’m curious now, so will have to hunt the ones out I’ve missed!
I picked up four books for 80p each in a charity shop on Wednesday, one of them is To Kill a Mockingbird, I haven’t read it for years and I’m looking forward to re reading it.

Yesterday I finished this month's book club choice, 'Five feet apart'. It's about two teenagers with cystic fibrosis who fall in love in the hospital. As you can imagine from that premise, it is a bittersweet book.

Waiting for next month's pick, I'm currently reading 'Legends and Lattes' on ebook, it's been very popular online and is described as cozy fantasy.

Finished The Mark, an unexpected ending.
Now started Mission in Malmo by Torquil Macleod.

What did you think of "The Mark?. I gave up on Matt Bolly after reading this one. Over the last few years I have started two of his series. Each one is decent enough as a stand alone but as a series I found far too much back reference to repetitive themes which becomes tedious. I felt approaching a quarter of "The Mark" unnecessary padding. Unfortunately he is is not the only author resorting to this technique.

Finished Mission in Malmo , enjoyed it, I even part guessed the twist in the plot. Now started The West London Murders by Biba Pearce.

Started book number 80 for the year. I always aim for 100 but I’ve never achieved it. My new favourite author, Kristin Hannah, Winter Garden. I’ve only read The Nightingale which I loved, so on a mission to read more. So far so good.

Wow, 80 books! I have counted 15 this year, and I feel I´ve been reading quite a lot compared to the previous ones. It is the first I am properly keeping track. I expect I will get another 2 or 3 in December.

Finished The West London Murders, was a fairly easy read.
Now starting Murder Before Evensong by The Reverend Rihard Coles.

Don’t forget I’m retired so have a bit more time than you. If I didn’t have seven grandchildren I might have read 180! I think @grovesy reads far more than me.

Haven’t had time to read a book in a while? But I do read this forum. Can’t get my head round most of it. & I’ve read cyber punk & satanic verses. (Hard copy.)

I've been rereading Auberon Waugh "Will This Do?" I read it last in 2021 which I didn't realise. I've hardly any memory of it but find it a gripping read. I do like diaries and biographies.

Finished Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. Oh my word. Yet another beautifully written book by her. I was in tears at the end. Set in present day America and wartime Leningrad. The conditions were absolutely heartbreaking, Russia was at war with Germany but they way they treat their own people was atrocious. It’s believed, hard to say as the Russians obviously deny it all, almost 1 million people died, mostly due to starvation as food couldn’t get through as Leningrad was besieged by the Germans and the Russians did nothing to help. It was one of the coldest winters ever. People not only starved but they froze to death. Dreadful.
Back to murders today, I need a bit light relief! 😉 The Slaughter Man by Tony Parsons.
