Warning to Freestyle Libre users - regarding Apple iOS updates.

If they are waiting for Apple to confirm the compatibility of their app it might take some time as that’s not how it works. As I understand it Apple update their app, OS or whatever according to their requirements, which are often about security, and inform users about what they need to do to remain compatible. The ball falls into Abbott’s court, however they might choose to phrase it, and they need go do the work.
I agree, I have several ‘professional’ Apps running - and they all seem competent enough to keep their associated Apps running sweetly when the iOS is updated - unfortunately Abbotts app is by far the worst ‘managed’ I have ever encountered.

Might have been a couple of years ago when Libre had problems, I used 3rd party Shuggah app for a while till Abbott caught up, might work this time if you prefer to use phone?

I can’t remember exactly but sensor had to be started first with one or the other not sure which way round.

I found the suggestion on here so maybe of help?

I have turned off the auto updates, for this reason. It was a couple of versions ago that it had the issue and that put me off. I now only use the phone app as a backup system as I am using the libre 2 plus as a HCL. I prefer the CGM graphs and data on my phone even if the alarms are via the Omnipod 5 PDM.

I suggest turning off the auto updates, or yes using the handset. Not ideal having 2 things to carry about but at least the libre handset is lightweight.

As I had less than 24 hrs left on my current sensor, so little potential for waste, I updated my phone (iPhone 13) to iOS 18.2 earlier and so far, so good as far as Libre2 is concerned- no problems with either continuous readout or scanning.

Will see what tomorrow brings with a new sensor. Also realised that my next sensor but one will be Libre2+, thus introducing another element. What an exciting life I lead:rofl:

Fingers crossed - keep us informed please.

Hi @JJay,

Just wondered how you got on with starting the new sensor?

Thanks.

No problems at all. A slight hiccup whereby LibreLink was slow responding to scans of my smart pens but that ironed itself out after a couple of days.

I’ve now discovered another Libre2 at the back of the shelf (bought as a spare one time ago) so the L2+ experiment will be delayed!

Unfortunately I have recently updated my iPhone iOS and my Freestyle Libre 2 App ( LibreLink ) has stopped scanning any new sensors.
Happened on 19th December and I tried 3 new sensors with all failing to scan - far too many to be faulty sensors.
Got Apple to run a diagnostics on my iPhone ( SE 2022 ) hardware and all was functioning perfectly.
Therefore there is major problem with the Freestyle Libre App to anyone running OS 18.0+ ( I even tried updating to the latest iOS 18.2 as a last resort which still failed ).
After several phone calls with the Abbot helpline they admitted this was correct and advice was just to keep looking for their App updates ( whenever?!? ).
They were quite happy to replace my wasted sensors, which I commend - but this is not the main problem.
I consider it very poor / amateur conduct for a multi national company ( Abbot / Freestyle Libre ) to not ensure that their software system is functioning correctly on the latest iOS and just wish to warn everyone who may receive / purchase any new Apple iPhones etc over the Christmas period to be aware of this prohibitive info. :(
I’ve had exactly the same sensor was working fine then started a new one to constantly receive signal loss alarms, I waited it out for 4 days just incase. Then contacted abbot they sent me new sensors and a scanner and told me there will be a app update coming this week or next

Excellent - let’s hope the App update works, I’ve since changed to a new sensor and it still only works via the Reader and not scanning at all with my iPhone LibreLink App.

Just to add to the fun 18.3 out now!

However I’m still on 18.1.1 and working fine with LibreLink
Software Release version 2
Software Full version 2.12.0.8319

IOS 18.3 installed, libre working fine (at the moment!) Still on Libre 2, apparently the doctors surgery have never heard of Libre 2+! I am sure they will catch up eventually.
