Random sci-fi themed question/musing?

My mother has a pacemaker and is known as robo-gran by my children.
The best I can offer is a chunk of titanium running from below my knee to just above my ankle. Sadly it hasn't given me any superpowers (other than lot losing the leg).

Cyborg-iness comes with downsides.
Recently, at airport security, I set off the alert.
I didn't know if it was my CGM, my pump, the metal plate in my arm or whether I just looked shifty. But it I come to expect it, arrive a little earlier and smile at the security staff. It is no more than a little faff.

When I did a lot of cycle racing in the 1980s, the Holy Grail was to be able to afford bike parts made out of titanium, so I'd have been very jealous of you

My wife & I were at a “comicon” event & there was a guy with a stall. Chatting to him he said he’d been in Doctor who & had pictures as a member of UNIT, cyberman, the silence, & a Dalek. The Dalek photo was a still from asylum of the daleks. There were loads of them so I asked, “which one are you?” He pointed bottom right on the picture. I responded that I thought the Daleks in the auditorium were all CGI? He got quite miffed. “NO!?. I WAS THERE!

I have a dental implant does that count? It is a titanium bolt with a post screwed in and an acrylic resin cap. I mentioned on an older thread that some hotels in Japan have lifelike female androids as receptionists. My wife has said that, if we ever visited one, I would have to deal with her because she would be totally creeped out by it. I find it pretty amazing that stuff that was total fiction when I was growing up is now real.
I'd say so, I had some teeth removed some years ago and have a plate/replacements. And tell me about it, there are times I'll watch a tv show or movie that could be 15-20 years old and even then, everyday tech like computers, mobile phones etc have all changed and improved.

Oh yeah, even these days there are still actors/stunt people in suits etc. I met Kenny Baker way back in 2001 at a small sci-fi convention, first time I'd ever met anyone famous, he was really friendly and could tell I was shy.

By definition of cyborg you could even include inspector gadget lol

Id go as far as saying star treks borg is based on doctor whos cybermen.....that must have been late 60s early 70s
Definitely, and oh yeah, one way or another,The Borg were influenced by them, and they've faced off and joined forces in a series of Dr Who/Star Trek crossover comics.

I dont think the borg created vger.....they would just assimilated the technology....and therefore known the existance and location of humans/earth long before Q sent the Enterprise to the otherside of the galaxy in TNG

And Vger wouldnt have made the Borg cos it didnt have a purpose....that was the whole point of the movie.....it wanted his programming completed by the creator

My dad was a Gillott and actually built bicycles - worked for some very fast cyclists, made award winning tandems. I had a bike with titanium parts - I could lift it in one hand.
I amuse myself writing alternate reality and science fiction stories.
My characters have mechanical horses as bicycles were never invented - 'Two wheels? Surely it would fall over?' Petrol never became a fuel, vehicles run on steam, electricity or seed oil. They have battery phones, work pads and radio links to the cable net, but no google or other search engine.
They do have Devices and AI - which are self aware. Rather than enslaving Humans and taking over they tend to ask 'are you sure that's a good idea?' or remark 'that seems a little foolhardy, if you don't mind my saying so' but they are very good at seeing children across roads, giving directions and helping people with their shopping.

I think I've mentioned previously that I had a second-hand Gillott frame in the early 1980s: didn't I post a photo of it?

Yes you did - brought back memories of the style of bike I grew up with.

Oddly I thought Star Trek IV had a similar plot. Threat to earth becoming increasingly volatile. (OK there was a bit of a “time heist” padding it out.) but in essence it was just another probe checking in on the whales, this time?

This article has some interesting ideas on that https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/V'ger#Apocrypha
Thanks for the link. I have to admit in my opinion the V’ger craft design in the movie had a Borg build about it. (Not in shape.) & I quite like the idea that one little space probe launched as an exploration program in the 1970s come back to bite us in the arse. I’ll leave a trailer for a film I streamed last night, reminded me a little of IRobot? This one directed by the guy that did Rogue one.
