So, having been a fan of science fiction for most of my life (starting way back in the mid 1980's when I first saw the original/Generation One Transformers cartoon) and having a general interest in the area of cybernetics and cyborgs, it got me thinking. To the best of my knowledge, at least in real life science and medical terms, someone who has had something like a hip (or other body part) replaced, wears hearing aids etc could be considered a cyborg, or someone who relies on technology in their day to day lives, for those of us who has a Libre link sensor/app or anyone who has an insulin pump, can we consider/call ourselves cyborgs? As someone who's been a Transformers/sci-fi fan for so long (and since my diagnosis and dealing with the implications/finding ways to keep my spirits up/help with my mental health/help to pass the time, this is by no means hyperbole when i say that Transformers has helped keep me sane/saved my life) and who enjoys some of the more unique aspects of the franchise, such as organic beings bonding/partnering up with larger characters by using cybernetics etc, thinking of that and the other aspects of the culture has been a great help to me 🙂

But, what happens when your BG sensor / hearing aid / bionic hip, etc becomes "self aware"!
I've seen T2, we could all be doomed?
😉 🙂

Great that you've been able to tap into something you love to help you keep going. My friend calls me Wolverine due to my healing powers 😉 after breaking my ankle in 3 places and shortly after walking thousands of steps per day.
I'm not a Transformers fan per se, but I've been reading sci-fi and fantasy since the early 70s. With my pinned and plated ankle I'd be happy to call myself a cyborg!

I would consider myself a “cyborg” if I was in a situation like Robocop. But even then? That’s beholding to the tech corporation that developed either in internal “6 million dollar man” skeleton or “iron man’s” exoskeleton. A little like a Dalek or Cyberman. A CGM is just a tool. Not unlike a mobile phone or smartwatch attachment. But even then I’m sure the likes of “Samsung” in my case is collating my free will movements & interests to target me for marketing adds.

John Candy in 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles': "If they told you wolverines would make good house pets, would you believe them?".

As am I, I'd started to hyperfixate on a few other fandoms/franchises before my diagnosis (DC Comics, and then Marvel) before settling on Transformers, and being referred to as Wolverine is awesome, kudos!

I saw wolverines in a Jurassic park style walk through zoo, (there was a wooden “fly over” a few meters above the ground.) years ago. I couldn’t stop thinking, “the size of a spaniel Badger/bear?

But isn’t marvel’s wolverine more like a Terminator T-1000 skeleton. With the ability to heal due to the shape shifting skeleton through the skin?

His main mutant power/ability is his healing factor, his skeleton and claws were coated in Adamantium years later.

Interesting how word association means slightly different things to people

Mention cyborg and i dont think of T800.........i think of vader or seven of nine

Vader to my mind was a manipulated individual tortured by his own hate, circumstances. Even the suite keeping him alive was designed by the Emperor to torcher him. Agenda driven too. Where as 7 of 9 on the other hand was indoctrinated as a child (from my recollection on the back story.) into a “hive mind” and is discovering her own identity. & understanding of ethics after breaking from a could be seen as a “cult.”

Darth Vader is like Ebenezer Scrooge. With Yoda, Kenobi & Luke like the Christmas spirits. A story of redemption the black uncomfortable life preserving suit being his “chains.” Of Jacob Marley.”

Exactly, she became one against her will but eventually regained her humanity, while still keeping her cybernetic components.

Those cybermen scared the pants off me back then! But I recently watched a clip on YouTube and fell about laughing

I have a dental implant does that count? It is a titanium bolt with a post screwed in and an acrylic resin cap. I mentioned on an older thread that some hotels in Japan have lifelike female androids as receptionists. My wife has said that, if we ever visited one, I would have to deal with her because she would be totally creeped out by it. I find it pretty amazing that stuff that was total fiction when I was growing up is now real.
