Unsalted nuts are a great filler, I have them all the time and mix them in with some dishes, but I wonder if dry roasted nuts say cashews are ok as a treat?

Dry roasted peanuts are one of my goto snacks. I usually have a 30g portion, but generally only 2 portions a day.

Don’t make the mistake I did when I was in a hurry yesterday, I bought a packet of cashew nuts in Grape Tree, and when I came to open them tonight, realised they said 'honey roasted' on them, and are unbelievably, cloyingly sweet, and 37 carbs per 100g!

yes sounds good to me Martin, we can't be saints all the time LoL I take notions for cornflakes so every once in a while I have a bowl instead of my main dinner, or sometimes crunchy nut cornflakes LoL

Yes Robin I can see the mistake which I could easily make

Bear in mind all nuts are not equal. For example cashews are higher in carbs than almonds.
That doesn't mean cashews are off the menu. Just worth checking how they affect your BG and maybe eating smaller portions.
Or maybe trying something like smoked almonds?

Lidl have started doing bags of roasted mixed nuts which are really nice instead of just roasted peanuts.... I buy both. I really must get into a habit of dividing them into 30g portions the same as my jelly babies because I am terrible for opening a big packet and just keep dipping into it until they are half gone! I don't buy just cashews because they are too high in carbs for me.
Smoked almonds are really nice.

there is only one nut I hate and that is almonds in any form. i would never even consider them. Bear in mind helli I am talking about a treat not something I do every day and thus I am well aware. Nuts have little bearing on my BG.

omg don't even go there with jelly babies LoL who can only eat a few, if I buy them I would have to eat them all, same with wine gums so I figure it is best I don't buy them. In the car I do keep a wee tin with treats in case of emergency, otherwise they are not touched. Another weakness I have is toast just plain with lurpak, never found a brown or wholemeal bread I like, M & S do a bearable one, so for me it is always going to be a Warburtons white. Sometimes with grilled cheese, yummy.

Actually I am fine with Jelly Babies. I have them as hypo treatments and I view them as nice tasting medicine but I can and do take the absolute minimum required which might just be one or two and never more than 3 without losing control and there have been times when I have bitten one in half and put the other half back in my little hypo treatment pouch for another day, so I really have got control over them. And just like I wouldn't be tempted to take a paracetamol when I didn't need it, so I am never tempted to eat JBs when my levels are not low. It has been that way from the start when I was really very strict with my low carb approach, but it helps to keep me disciplined when I see what happens if I overtreat a hypo and then have to start injecting extra insulin to try to get my levels back down.
Interestingly, I cannot apply that discipline to other sweets. I tried liquorice allsorts and it was like they were pleading with me to eat them all the time and if I had one, I wanted the whole packet. Also tried skittles and midget gems and fruit pastilles. But I just can't maintain that necessary discipline I need and have with JBs and it isn't that I don't enjoy them but just that I have developed a very different mentality towards them which I can't seem to transfer to other sweets.

In your position I couldn't cope with having crunchy nut cornflakes in the house. Way too much temptation!

Watch out for changes in the mixture of nuts in packets.
When I used to buy them regularly I would have several packets around, and happened to notice that the carb content on the back of one was significantly higher than I thought it should be. Checking with an older version, it was. The pack was identical in design but the listed contents were in a slightly different order, and whilst not a huge increase in carb, I felt it made the difference between something I could eat ad lib. to something which required portion control on days I would be eating a dessert.

I have to watch my self control, and yes sometimes I lose it. TBH what bothers me most about being type 2 is the constant reading carbs on everything I pick up and end up putting back on shelves etc. Makes my shopping twice as long. Fortunately I won't have hypos so I can't even make the excuse that I need something sweet! Back in the pre discovery that I had type2 days, the only reasons I read nutritional values was to see the sat fat and calorie content, never looking at carbs. I love pasta, bread and potatoes oh dear

There has some advertisement lately on a nut milk product called Hevisure Gold which is able to stabilize glucose level. Have not tried it yet but can explore.

My advice would be to save your money as these things are almost always of minimal or no help to Type 2 diabetics let alone Type 1 which is a very different situation. They are mostly just advertising hype to sell a product and make someone money.

I agree I really wish i had never fell prey to these and allsorts of diet regimes that take your money. The best way is to be honest and truthful and help yourself. What is free advise usually is tested and tried and does not help a third party.

Can I ask, when buying nuts or seeds, what carb or fat content should I be looking for.
Just look at the carb value as that is the important thing rather than fat unless you need low fat for other medical reasons.

I look for under 10% carb. I don’t worry about the fat! Though I do weigh what I eat to keep an eye on the calories.

It always surprises me how much salt is in ‘dry roasted’ nuts. I love ‘em, but they are often saltier than salted nuts. Which seems… um… nuts!
