What A Difference A (Silver) Day Makes!

I will not say much today as I am annoyed over arriving an hour late at the Foot Clinic last week and 20 minutes late at Podiatry today.

What I wanted to show you is the improvement after two weeks of Silver Alginate dressings instead of the inconsistency of one step forward, one step back with some people doing their own thing.

Here is my foot today:-

Rather better than a few weeks ago don't you think?

Time for bed (Zzzzz emoji) as early doors physiotherapy tomorrow!

Oh my. What a (positive) difference. That now looks to be healing, rather than a foot going around the doldrums of uncertainty.

Fingers firmly crossed this can continue Mikey.

So pleased that you are getting consistent treatment on your foot now. It's looking a lot better than before. Fingers crossed that you continue to improve @@MikeyBikey

Much better. Not weepy and looks to be healing. Have they continued the silver dressings this week. I hope you will forgive the pun but please put your foot down and insist on silver dressings every time and show them these photos as your evidence. Seeing this improvement really gives you hope that it can get better with the right treatment and after 2+ years of battling this you really need some sign of positive change, so lets hope this is the turning point.

Will be doing a fuller update when I sort put the photos. Things have gone backwards slightly and after being told a swab was clear on Wednesday I hear on Thursday they have found a bacterial infection and I am back on antibiotics messing my BGs and stomach! :( P*ss*d *ff - yes, fed up - Yes, angry - YES!

It is a few weeks since I updated so here goes. Sadly although silver dressings were used after taking the last photo the bandaging was done too tight. This was made worse by there being 9 days to the next dressing change as the appointment was moved to accommodate the ENT appointment that never happened (new appointment in April (!) and no response to complaint as yet). You can see the restriction in the photograph below.

Again silver dressings were use and 5 days later I was back in the Font Clinic. There was only slight reduction in the swelling but I was told the last swab was negative for infection (this was Wednesday). As I was late I was the last person seen and the podiatrist decided again silver dressings (the same person who did that about six weeks ago). I then suggested "Why not Manuka honey" to be told whilst she liked them they do not have them! I just hope things do not worsen before Tuesday's appointment.

Then on Thursday I got a text that a prescription for antibiotics had been sent to my local pharmacy. Confused I chased this up and found that a bacterial infection had been found subsequent to my appointment! I am now on Ciprofloxacin so anticipate my slowly improving Trigger Finger to revert. :(

30/12//24 Edit - I should have said "against silver dressings" instead of "again silver dressings"!

It never rains, it pours. Thanks for the update @MikeyBikey but sorry that an infection has got in. I hope that the Enti iIt is sort things quickly and that you can cope with the trigger finger for a while.

Back on the medical merry-go-round again. So angry on your behalf that they cannot get the basics right. Silver dressings properly applied and changed on a regular basis isn't too much to ask for IMO. Hope the new antibiotics work quickly.😱😡 for the medical profession and <3:care: for you.

I just edited my previous post as it said "again silver dressings" when it should have said "against silver dressings"!

At the next appointment things looked worse and it got to raised voices when I questioned why silver dressings had not been used as the mantra "The podiatrist reacts to what they see on the day" is getting irritating. Anyway, silver dressings were used and at the appointment just before Christmas things had improved. It was the same person as the previous week and again silver dressings were used.

I am back at Podiatry in the morning and hopefully things have improved further. Occasionally the wounds seem to sting and become painful in sympathy with the Phantom Pain (I am now starting to wonder if the remnant of the fibula has moved slightly creating a pressure point in the socket of the prothesis?).

Mikey :care:
It’s hard to put down in words (politely) to express how saddened 😱
how sometimes seeing what your going through/gone through regarding how your treated
:thankyou:New Year, New Hope

My regular Physiotherapist had a look at the stump this morning and it seems quite sore. Will check again next week and if there is an issue try to get my Limb Fitting check (in 10 weeks) brought forward.

Hi @MikeyBikey hope the check next week can help bring your appointment forward and relieve your pain. :thankyou::care:

I think that looks marginally better than the previous photo Mikey. The red sores are not quite so red and weepy, so I think there is some optimism to be taken from it, but I accept that is likely small comfort, with such a long way still to go and little guarantee of progress being linear.
Keeping fingers crossed that it will continue to improve though and at least it isn't any worse.

I would like to thank you for sharing your pain with us, showing the nasty side of diabetes. It has really helped me take this nasty illness seriously and stay focused. I hope things continue to improve for you.
