Two days before going off to visit Vladimir, I was told that my cancer has reappeared in my liver. I 've always known the likelihood of it recurring was high, but as the years go by you can't help but hope. However, I had my consultants blessing to go on holiday, as an MRI scan was not 'sufficiently clinically urgent' to stop me going.
I have an MRI on Tuesday and will be having an op to remove 25/30% of my liver probably late October. The nature of neuroendocrine tumours is that they are inclined to keep popping up, but generally they are dealable with as they usually grow slowly.
As you can imagine, this news has knocked me sideways as I feel well (apart from a British Airways cold!). Being away for a fortnight was great because it really pushed this into the background, but now I'm home reality is beginning to bite. Lots of rude words are being said and tears shed, but i don't propose to let it defeat me.
My consultant doesnt see any reason why we shouldnt be sitting there in five years time discussing my health.
