Hello I am a diabetic type 1 I take 2 lots of insulin toujeo and humalog U100 I’m on at least 600 units a day of insulin and Pioglitazone 45mg I’m servilely insulin resistant, soon as I eat in the morning my levels shoot up and don’t go back down I’m starting the pump in about 4-6 weeks and was just wondering if anyone could recommend any supplements that can help my levels go down I’ve tried everything I spent a lot of money on things doesn’t seem to work so can anyone help me please

Can you increase your exercise or do you have any weight to lose?

I remember you @Laura0194 You were struggling with lumps from injecting. I really sympathise. It must be horrible being so resistant. Are you going to be using U200 or U500 insulin in your pump? I think we discussed concentrated insulin on your previous thread.

Are you overweight? You can work out your BMI here:

Have you also been given dietary advice to try to reduce your resistance? Very low fat plant-based diets can improve insulin sensitivity.

I’m not overweight or anything like that I’ve tried different diets and everything and nothing has helped they were suppose to put me on the U200 but they prescribed the wrong one they gave me the U100 instead and just kept me on that I asked to be switched on to the U200 but they wouldn’t

Is it right that you can’t take Metformin? That’s an obvious first treatment for insulin resistance. I see you’re MODY type. Is the insulin resistance caused by the type of MODY you have?

Have you tried the very low fat vegan diet? A keto diet?

I really feel for you being left to struggle with this. It’s not fair to you. The prescription of the wrong insulin is crap too. There must be answers for you. Could you look at changing hospitals?

I was on metformin before made me really ill I have been on several different medications and insulins just finding it really hard to deal with now because I feel sick and dizzy every day like I’m going to pass out I’m tired all the time I hate it feeling like this every day, I’ve tried everything I can thing off nothings worked

I’m going to tag @everydayupsanddowns in case he knows of a specialist in the U.K. or a particular protocol or drug. 600 units per day is a massive amount and it must be distressing to have to take that much.

In theory, a pump might help as the amount of insulin used can usually be reduced. Pumps only hold 300 units though so you’d have to use a concentrated insulin or maybe use the pump for basal and still inject for meals. Don’t give up. You can’t be the only person struggling with this. There will be a way to improve things.

I do what I can because I have problems with my legs and feet, my weight is fine I’ve never been overweight at all
What about arm exercises, or swimming, or a wheelchair basketball team or similar if you have problems with your legs? Exercise can help to reduce insulin resistance.

I appreciate that I’m just so tired of it all now with the bruising and the lumps I’m just sick of it all know like when’s it going to end

Continues message from other, my levels are constantly high as soon as ineat I've tried everything and now I'm on the pump and that still doesn't seem to be making a difference I've been told my diabetic case is nothing like they've herd saw before or worked with I've also been told they don't know what to do after this so it's leaving me with no hope or solutions does anyone know what would be the next step because I'm really struggling right now and I don't know what to do

Did you get the U200 or U500 insulin to help your lumps? Can you write down an average day’s food for you, meal by meal?

So sorry to hear that you are still struggling.
Which pump have you got and which insulin are you using?

What have you done to help reduce the insulin resistance?

I hope that the pump helps @Laura0194
With a pump you will be delivering the basal very gradually, throughout the day, but it will be into the same sight for the time you have that cannula in. using a tubed pump I find that I am able to vary the sight of my cannula so this might help avoid the sites that have been overused.
Sorry not to have any other ideas.

The concentrated insulins used in a pump are likely to be the most helpful. I know that they have currently given you the U100 at present but I would encourage you to push for the higher concentration to reduce the amounts that you need to inject.

Are you in the U.K. @Laura0194 ? What pump do you have? How can you be using a pump if you take 600 units a day?
