Hi Dawn
The glucose levels that you are getting will depend on the amount of carbohydrates that you are eating. Do you monitor this at all? I was surprised how much I had in my meals when I was diagnosed. More recently we have set ourselves a lower target for each meal (which is flexible around the edges) and that has helped us both. The news papers etc focus a lot on sugar which tends to distort the view, and then people forget to include all the pasta, potatoes, rice, root vegetables, ... in their counting. We still eat these but in smaller quantities.
You could try just finding out how many carbs you are eating at a meal (I just type into google carbs in .... if I don’t know and it is not on the packet). The bit we avoid completely now is pre-prepared meals. Once you know how many carbs you are eating you could try to reduce this and see what impact it has on your BG.
Good to hear that you are getting out for walks now. One tip Intook on which I found easy to do was not to sit down for 15 minutes after any meal. We walk, or I do some ironing, offer to clear up, ... anything to keep moving so that muscles use up some of the glucose that I have just made by eating.
Hope that helps
