@Jeff Stocking welcome to the forum. That test sounds like the Hb1ac, it is an average of your blood glucose level over the last three months.
I was much higher when I was first diagnosed a long time ago.
Fortunately Diabetes is a condition that with the right info and a bit of work we can manage well.
How are you coping with the Metfartin as it’s often not so fondly called here.

Their is a link to a much recommended book by Gretchen Becker called T2 Diabetes the first year, she has T2 herself and goes through month by month her first year .
And if you want to self test to see how the various carbohydrates affect you do ask the nurse for a glucose meter, if as is highly likely you are told no it’s not necessary, we here believe that self testing helps us gain better control as we can make informed choices on what carbs are good and bad for us.
You’ll find a link to The SD Codefree meter there too, it’s the cheapest one we know of to self fund the ongoing cost of the testing strips.
