Hi forum glad to be here.🙂
A warm welcome to our friendly and supportive forum Xandra ~ though sorry to see you've been dx (diagnosed) You have come to the right place as there is a collective wealth of knowledge & experience here ~ ready and willing to answer any questions you may have.

So that we can help you we need to ask you a few questions (Sorry)
When we're you diagnosed?
How did your diagnosis come about ~ e.g. were you suffering symptoms like gaining weight ; an unquenchable thirst ; passing water more frequently?
Or
Was your diabetes picked up through a routine blood test?
Do you exercise on a regular basis?
Have you been supplied with a meter kit to enable you to test your blood glucose levels?
We're you seen by a DSN or your GP when you were advised of your diabetes?

There's much to learn about your diabetes which is a condition that is manageable if you follow a healthy diet and exercise regime. By exercise I mean walking; swimming; badminton, other. etc

I would suggest that you take a look at the following link which you'll find helpful.
Read it at your leisure Xandra coz there is much to absorb.

Scroll down to the section: Type2 Diabetes.

I won't overwhelm you any further at this stage ~ others will be along shortly to offer their advice and help. Remember that you're not alone as we will accompany you on your diabetes journey. Anything you wish to know, just ask.
Take care, good luck and stay in touch.

As an add on to my post above, there is a book called the CARB & CALORIE COUNTER which is excellent in helping us to keep tabs on the carborhydrates we consume. You see, it's the carbs in food that elevate our bgls (blood glucose levels) Others will be along to go into these in more depth🙂
