It is likely caused by Dawn Phenomenon (DP). This is where the liver ramps up it's release of glucose to give you energy for the day ahead. It is part of the body's circadian rhythm. There is a theory that it harks back to prehistoric days when we didn't have kitchen's with food and needed this glucose release to go out an hunt or forage for our first meal of the day which obviously takes a lot more energy (glucose) than walking into the kitchen and opening the fridge 🙄 and this mechanism prevented us from dying of starvation because we were too weak to be successful in our hunt following our overnight fast.7.4, so that’s pretty good for me. Still getting a rise of 2 or 3 at about 6am. Must ask tomorrow why this is when I have a clinic appointment tomorrow (possibly doc, nurse or dietitian - appointment not clear which).

Beware the Jasmin. We bought one to grow up some trellis on an east facing wall at our old house. Don't worry I said to hubby. It prefers south or West facing aspect it will probably only grow to 10 - 12ft tall.Morning and a 5.9 on getting up for me and no highs in the night. In fact yesterday my BG level did not go very high despite some morning Cake at the 2nd of our 3 Garden Centre visits.
Bought a small Tree Fern as well as a tall Jasmin and then had our much bigger Tree Fern delivered which had been overwintered at another Nursery.
Thanks Barbara. I sort of knew that, but wasn’t aware of the background detail. My clinic just said “that’s normal” without any explanation although the rises were sometime quite steep. It is likely caused by Dawn Phenomenon (DP). Some people experience it as soon as it starts to get light, hence "DAWN" Phenomenon and for others like myself (perhaps because I used to work shifts for a lot of years and slept through the day), it waits until I put my feet on the floor and get out of bed. It is almost like a tilt mechanism and we usually refer to this as Foot On The Floor Syndrome or FOTF. If I go to bed and have a nap in the afternoon, I find it will happen again when I get up, so for me it is very much a response to getting up from lying down for a reasonable period of time.
My FOTF response is very dramatic and if I didn't inject a couple of units to cover it my levels will rise by 6mmols in 45 mins of getting up, however I can reduce that by doing a decent amount of exercise the previous evening and some people find alcohol the night before stops or reduces it.
Not if you take the car!! 😉Does going shopping count as “going on a hunt”?
Cheers, Nick
You have to wonder where it’s getting its sustinence from, we have a passion flower that is rampant over our South East facing wall. We recently had our gutters replaced, and the builders reported that the soak away goes across the back of the house, under the patio, and was full of roots!Beware the Jasmin. How wrong was I 😱. Picture is of the mature vine in the summer after being hard pruned every winter. We used to get about 100 sparrows roosting in it every year.

Great example of a symbiotic relationship. Plant provides roost for birds and birds provide fertilizer for plant! Plus householder doesn't need curtains or blinds!Beware the Jasmin. Well I got here at 10am and went straight in. I’ve just come out from there after maybe 25 minutes perusing things in the main shop.@ColinUK i shall look forward to the review of Cartier as, apart from booking Titanique next month, we've booked to see the Cartier exhibition too.
@Eternal422 i hope the assessment goes ok.
