Ah, yes. The vacutainer system. I can always tell when my trust have 'rationalised' on equipment and changed to a cheaper supplier. I'm pretty good at taking blood normally but the new kit we have means holding the bottle at an awkward angle so as not to lose the vacuum - you can hear and feel when you do. My argument is that it's not an economy if you need twice the equipment!!Morning all, 7.6 here, Dawn has decided to pay me a visit, I was pottering along quite happily in the 5s for most of the night.
Had my annual blood tests, and have holes in both arms and a bruise on one, to show for it. Never happened to me before, but the nurse fumbled the second test tube as she was swapping over, and there was a loud hiss and the tube condensated up with just a small drop of blood in the bottom. I didn’t realise, the tubes are sealed with a vacuum inside, which means they draw the blood up better, I assume. Only she dislodged the needle in my arm a bit and let air in to the tube, so it blew! Having dislodged the needle, she had to start again on the other arm, and I’ve got a large bruise on the original.
Nurse was mortified, and so apologetic, she said that hasn’t happened to her for a long time. She’s certainly been doing my blood tests for at least ten years without previous mishap!
5.9 for me today. And a day covering a colleagues clinc. Well, me and a student. So, fingers crossed we don't run too far behind as it's busy!!
