With home delivery if your lucky enough to get a slot a month away it may come with very little stock when it arrives due to stock outs!
I think I'm going to have to shop at 3am at the 24 hour shop and hope they have some stock, they stock up at night, mind you it could be still busy but what choice have I got,at least it will help me avoid more people than in the day

@belugalad That's my plan. The 24 hour Tesco is a 5 minute walk away, so I'll use it to stock up as much as I can without being outside too long. If I have to go at 5 in the morning, I will.

The carers that have just visited my house have said Tescos have announced they wont be opening through the night now for the public in the Warwick store, they will be opening at 6am,that's that plan gone out of the window then, that may just be the store local to me though

No quite likely will be commonplace, apparently so that staff can restock without being abused!

This whole ridiculous situation with panic buying is stressing me out worse than the virus itself! Last week things round here were still relatively civilised with just a few bare shelves. This week it's absolute chaos, all the shops are rammed and I can’t get toilet roll or UHT milk anywhere at the moment. Unless I strike lucky when the shelves have just been restocked, but within half an hour they will be bare again. It's all so unnecessary, if people were sensible and maybe only bought a couple of extra things a week to slowly build up their stock cupboard then we'd ride it out no problem :(

I have never used a shop in the night but I once went to the 24 hour Tesco to kill time whilst waiting for my son at an appointment. It was around 10 PM and all the cages were being put out then but not actually being emptied on to the shelves.

I'll have to keep an eye out for that then. Cheers.

There are absolutely no delivery slots from Sainsburys in my area, and their answerphone messages confirm that is true. Fortunately I did have my regular delivery already booked. I just hope the madness dies down in a few weeks as people look in their attics and garages loaded with boxes and crates of supplies and there's nowhere else to put any more stuff.
My GP confirmed yesterday I do need to self isolate (almost 70 year old diabetic) and Sainsbury's said I must notify them if in self isolation. But how? Nowhere on the website, and I was on hold for an hour yesterday, then again for an hour today before giving up. So there's a notice stuck to my front door. Place on doormat, light blue touchpaper and retire! But on the bright side, my gout is responding well to treatment!! 🙂

I always keep a good larder of tinned and dry goods and tend to buy in bulk to save money. It is how I was brought up as a shopkeeper's daughter. I grew up going shopping in a trade cash and carry rather than supermarkets so this situation hasn't really changed much for me. I've been lucky.

Also most of my diet now is tinned and frozen meat with some fresh, cheese, eggs, butter, cream, almond flour, coconut flour, psyllium husk and konjac. I have some frozen berries which I use sparingly and they will last a long while. I've ordered some powdered egg because it is more convenient anyway for baking and less wasteful and I ordered some freeze strawberry powder I`d been meaning to order for ages but this situation spurred me on and I may order some more citric acid powder as I use that both for my jewellery making and for eating so I might need some.

I can manage without butter and cream as I have alternatives I use for other recipes and they'll be fine.

I also learned how to make a decent meal out of almost nothing as a student. I have plenty of herbs and spices - drawers and drawers of them and I use them every day. I wouldn't call myself a survivalist but I do have a 'be prepared' mentality which comes from being a Girl Guide and having lived in a country where shortages and long periods without electricity and earthquakes were common.

I agree. I've just been told not to go into work (i work in a school) and i feel more stressed and frightened about the panic buyers than i do about anything else. I have some food in and have just tried to do a normal shop. Maybe the government, alongside giving daily updates on what we should do, should make it hard to buy more than is needed though i don't know how that could be managed.

We don't use Internet Grocery Shopping but I noticed my neighbours delivery last week the Asda driver was hanging around for them to empty the boxes on the door step. I thought some companies were allowing to have deliveries with carrier bags.

Maybe you can let them know via their Facebook page messaging?

Thanks for that - I never thought of it. I've stuck a notice on my front door and am living upstairs so I can look down and talk through the open window. It worked fine with my Amazon delivery of cat food this morning. So the cat's OK for a couple of months!!!

I worked in retail also before now they are doing a Stirling job. All work is madness at the moment because everyone is stressed.

Heard on radio a shopper today had all food through till finished with a box of chocolates which she then gave to cashier as thanks to the team.

I don’t use sainsburys now, but with other supermarkets on one of the checkout pages , there is a message box for the delivery driver, that’s where you notify them or you may have to phone customer services after you’ve placed your order .

Are you on Twitter? Sometimes contacting companies that way can work.

Crazy scenes this morning, cars queuing outside Aldi hardly any fresh foods on shelves, limited fruit & veg no chicken pork beef, frozen veg all but gone no toilet rolls in sight.

Nipped next door to Iceland, freezers nearly empty, no veg chicken meat veg no loo paper.

Lass on Aldi checkout said she's seen not owt like it, even at christmas. Ended up in Morrisons, managed to get few things in there but limited stock, no hand soap bars of soap no toilet roll or kitchen roll, again freezers were nearly running empty.

Sad tale, wife read last night that old lady in town got into taxi from supermarket in tears, only got half her shopping but couldn't get to other side of town to look in other stores, taxi driver kindly went to get items and delivered them at no extra charge, times like this can bring out worst & best in people.

Sainsburys is Phone Customer Services which is the impossible problem. So I've taken the advice of another member and used their Facebook Messaging Service.

I was shocked today at work with how many empty shelves there was. Hardly any meat, no potatoes, very few ready meals, freezers nearly empty and don't get me started on the tins and packets of food!!!

This has been going on for the whole time you were away. I really don’t know where people are putting it all.

My plan was to go shopping as early as possible tomorrow, if I can’t get what I need I still have Thursday and Friday. I really only need fresh food, bread, meat, fish and vegetables. If there is any, I’ll pick up some tinned tomatoes and beans/ chick peas. I always have lentils, split peas, rice, noodles. I don’t have a lot of freezer space, I traded my bigger freezer in a couple of years ago for a fridge freezer as there’s only two of us, it doesn’t hold lots so won’t be filling my trolly with frozen food, TBF we don’t eat frozen food, except peas! If I can get the veg I will be fine for a couple of weeks. Our daughters will be dropping off bits and pieces on our doorstep. Said au revoire to our three youngest grandchildren today. Was tough.
