    SGLT2 Inhibitors & Fluid Questions

Hey all. So I have been asked to take 2 x 10mg of empagliflozin to see how well I tolerate a higher dose (was on just 10mg) with a view to switch to the single 25mg tablet. 10mg wasn't really enough to control bg. Im about 4 weeks into the increase. I am also on water tablets daily (furosemide...

    Group 7-day waking average?

...foods just play havoc with bg no matter what. Cant wait to be all better so I can get a clearer picture of what effect the increased empagliflozin has had. Its been 3 weeks and between the booster and cold leading to this chest infection, I literally have no idea. I've done it again and...

    Group 7-day waking average?

...she will review again in a couple of week as everything is out of whack. She did mention I shouldn't have been told to keep taking my empagliflozin (by another hcp at the gp surgery) when I was ill (vomiting and feeling very dehydrated) and said in future just stop them for a few days until...

    Feel like crap

It sounds as if what you were experiencing was a false hypo (Low blood sugar) This happens because your body has been used to higher numbers so now they have come down a bit it feels awful to start with as you found out today. As you gradually drop down to normal numbers this feeling will go.

Type 2 and in heart failure

I took empagliflozin which is similar but only for a few days as it caused ketoacidosis. Make sure you are aware of the symptoms of high ketones and check your levels or seek medical help if you have signs of ketones.

Don't know what to do anymore (long read)

They want me to go back to old dose of gliclazide (40 mg twice a day instead of 80mg twice a day) as I tolerated that and double up on empagliflozin (20mg) and if that's okay I will just go onto the 25mg single tablet dose. At least I can take that with food if it isn't agreeable without. Nurse...

Ketones in urine, normal blood sugars, on steroids for asthma, 30 weeks pregnant

...Not eating many carbs can cause ketones. You can get DKA with normal blood sugars, particularly if on the “flozin” type drugs like empagliflozin, and I’ve heard it can happen with Covid too, so if on anything like that, or if any other signs of DKA, or if you can’t keep fluids down, you...

Don't know what to do anymore (long read)

...frustrating, they tell you to loose weight and put you on meds that encourage gain. The other nagging thought is is water tablets + Empagliflozin putting too much on my kidneys (function tests are okay). I can't drink much more than I am to help those two to work. Water tablets were working...

Don't know what to do anymore (long read)

...them know metformin wasn't working out. Spoke to the pharmacist (who apparently handles most T2 patients) and he decided introducing Empagliflozin was the best option. (the one where it stops your kidneys sending glucose back but instead makes you pee it out). Numbers almost instantly dropped...

    Just Diagnosed

Great to hear how well you have been getting on, and how the Libre has helped you @Webzcas Regarding lancets, and fingerpricks - if you have the Accu-Chek MultiClix (with a drum of 6 lancets) you have one of the best! It should be possible to get a drop of blood almost pain-free. And that’s...

    Just Diagnosed

...wearing the sensor for the first two weeks, in addition to the metformin that I am already taking, my diabetic nurse has prescribed me Empagliflozin to take once a day. This touch wood has helped immensely. I have read that Apple are working on introducing a non invasive blood sugar test in...

    Group 7-day waking average?

I explained the symptoms for up to 20 years as a by product of the transport industry. Changing from Day shifts to night shift. Tiredness like jet lag. Extra urination. Being in the seat for 4 or 5 hours without getting to toilet. Bad moods. Pressure of working Short temper. Pressure...

    Group 7-day waking average?

...readings overall are still around the 8s. Range during the day is 7-14. What I can eat one day, the next will send me soaring. The Empagliflozin is helping massively, would it still help if anything other than T2 (along with gliclazide)? Gliclazide alone was hit and miss. Somedays it did its...

    Experiences with Ozempic?

Thanks for all your input. I'm getting back to some sort of normality. My BG levels are stable between 5 and 8.5 mmol. I have yet to contact the Diabetes Centre...I may well give it another week or so just to make sure things are stable. I'm still taking Empagliflozin at 25mg a day.

    Experiences with Ozempic?

Having finally been reviewed by the local Diabetes Centre, it was decided that I should stick with the Empagliflozin at 25mg, and also go on Ozempic weekly injections. I've done 4 weeks at 0.25mg, and 2 weeks at 0.5 mg, 6 weeks of absolute misery. Bowel movements ranging from rock-solidly...

Forxiga (dapagliflozin) no longer authorised for treatment of type 1 diabetes

Dapagliflozin 5mg was the only SGL2 authorised for use in T1 and the manufacturers have withdrawn it themselves - it was always said upfront it made minimal difference anyway so the cons (DKA etc) always outweighed the pros anyway, it seems to me.
