Hello recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes but having issues with my GP so apologies for the long explanation.Last August I was asked to make an appointment with my Practice Nurse , apparently my Hba1c was just above 47. She basically said I’d need my blood testing in 3 months and if it was still above 47 we’d need to have a more in depth talk. No real guidance given. I read a few bits on the internet and made a few dietary changes, no more fruit juice for breakfast and stopped having yoghurts in my packed lunch at work. And when I tested again it had dropped. Go forward several months a couple of personal issues along the way and when hba1c tested again I received a text advising me to pick up a prescription and make an appointment to see the practice nurse. So I’m now on metformin one tablet a day. The practise nurse gave me a pneumonia vaccine, tested my feet and suggested I look up paleo diet , and said there would be a referral to a diabetes clinic and an eye test. When I eventually got the clinic referral it was initially a 1-2-1 telephone consultation - turned out I was referred to the pre-diabetes healthier lifestyle one so they basically turned round and said I couldn’t be on that as I was already diabetic and referred back to the GPs. GP is now saying my blood sugar is under control and I don’t need referring. I feel I’ve been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and not really been told anything or given any guidance , what help should I be expecting from my GP and any advice on how to ensure I get what help I need. Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
