That puts a different complexion on advice about low carb as depending on what insulin you are taking and how much you will still need to be eating some carbs to match any insulin doses.
You must ask what your carb intake needs to be for the insulin regime you will be using and also you should have hypo treatment available at all times. So jelly babies or 150ml cans of full fat coke or glucose tabs. You must also have a monitor and test strips to be able to test your glucose levels.
If you have not got those things then I would be reluctant to start on any insulin.
I am puzzled that insulin has been the first port of call rather than some of the oral medications and dietary changes which are normally tried first. Did they explain that to you?
