has anyone tried the Tesco free from milk plain soya alternative to yogurt? It’s £1.25 a tub. One third of a tub contains 3.9g of fat 1.5g of carbohydrate and 0.6g of sugar. I really like it with strawberries or even on its own.
No, I haven't tried that, but I have recently changed my yogurt consumption
For years I just bought & ate any kind of fruit yogurt I fancied, reasoning that they would only add a small amount of sugar to my diet, and wasn't really worth worrying about
Then only about 3 or 4 weeks ago I thought it was time I took my sugar & carbohydrate consumption more seriously and made more of an effort to reduce both sugars and overall CHO
They all contained sugar of course, that's inevitable with milk & fruit, but most of them also had added sugar
For example, Yeo Valley Vanilla has 14,0% sugar, with 7,0% listed as added sugar & their Peach & Apricot has 11,6% sugars with 4,0& added.
Fair enough, it's clearly stated on the label, I'd just been too idle to read it & take it in
Sainsbury's Greek Style Natural Yogurt has sugars at 7,1% with no added sugar
At the moment the shops are full of cheap fruit so I've been making up my own fruit yogurt from natural plus strawberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, you get the idea
Sometimes I add a bit of cinnamon
I thought I might miss the sweetness, but no, not at all. I haven't added sugar or sweeteners to cereals, tea, coffee etc for years, and I almost never eat cakes or biscuits, so I think that with time my taste buds have changed
Of course there will be sugar from the fruit, but that would involve further research & calculations
I haven't tried the Milbona yogurt mentioned, but my local supermarket is LIDL so I'll look out for it
Being a man, to celebrate my new style homemade yogurt I treated myself to a new Japanese kitchen knife that I didn't really need
