has anyone tried the Tesco free from milk plain soya alternative to yogurt? It’s £1.25 a tub. One third of a tub contains 3.9g of fat 1.5g of carbohydrate and 0.6g of sugar. I really like it with strawberries or even on its own.

I haven't tried that and my preference is for dairy. My favourite is Lidl's Milbona Creamy Greek Yoghurt. It has the lowest carbs of any natural yoghurt I have come across so far at 3.2g per 100g product and is only about £1.50ish if I remember correctly for a great big 1kg bucket . I would prefer if it was made with British milk but sadly it isn't.

No, I haven't tried that, but I have recently changed my yogurt consumption

For years I just bought & ate any kind of fruit yogurt I fancied, reasoning that they would only add a small amount of sugar to my diet, and wasn't really worth worrying about

Then only about 3 or 4 weeks ago I thought it was time I took my sugar & carbohydrate consumption more seriously and made more of an effort to reduce both sugars and overall CHO
They all contained sugar of course, that's inevitable with milk & fruit, but most of them also had added sugar

For example, Yeo Valley Vanilla has 14,0% sugar, with 7,0% listed as added sugar & their Peach & Apricot has 11,6% sugars with 4,0& added.
Fair enough, it's clearly stated on the label, I'd just been too idle to read it & take it in
Sainsbury's Greek Style Natural Yogurt has sugars at 7,1% with no added sugar

At the moment the shops are full of cheap fruit so I've been making up my own fruit yogurt from natural plus strawberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, you get the idea
Sometimes I add a bit of cinnamon

I thought I might miss the sweetness, but no, not at all. I haven't added sugar or sweeteners to cereals, tea, coffee etc for years, and I almost never eat cakes or biscuits, so I think that with time my taste buds have changed
Of course there will be sugar from the fruit, but that would involve further research & calculations

I haven't tried the Milbona yogurt mentioned, but my local supermarket is LIDL so I'll look out for it

Being a man, to celebrate my new style homemade yogurt I treated myself to a new Japanese kitchen knife that I didn't really need

I make myself desserts with sugar free jelly and yoghurt - I make the jelly double strength, two sachets in a half pint of hot water, when dissolved I leave it to cool down a little then add the yoghurt and rinse out the pot with a half pint of cold water, and whisk.
On warm evenings I add frozen fruit after the whisking, and sometimes a little chia seed to soak up the juice from the fruit so as to get a firm set. I leave the dish in the fridge for an hour or so and it is usually firm enough to eat - though it is best after sitting overnight.

I have the Lidl Milbona yoghurt every morning with Aldi mixed berries and a sprinkling of crushed walnuts

I sometimes add ground almonds and pumpkin seeds along with berries. I added a small banana into the mix last night and that really hit the spot but I took insulin to cover the banana, so not advocating that as a low carb option to you Type 2s.

I’ve found this one and I love it. Is it ok to have as a snack, say on an evening. It’s really delicious.

I have it as dessert on an evening with a few fresh raspberries (one of the lowest carb fruits) and maybe some ground almonds or chopped hazelnuts. Just be aware of portion size particularly if you need to lose weight as it is very moreish!

Great. I’m losing weight but due to BG I think lol

Just trying to get as many ideas as I can. It’s really nice but I don’t want it to elevate my bloods if I eat it on a night? Steep learning curve

It is one of the lowest carb desserts I have managed to concoct so far and it is tasty and has a nice texture with the chopped nuts and fruit. It comes in at less than 10g carbs and since this low carb eating has to be a way of life it is important for it to be enjoyable. Carbohydrates will elevate your blood glucose at any time of day but usually the body tolerates them better in the evening, so eating it as a dessert after dinner is probably the best time.

Thank you. I will have some tonight.

I found that I can cope with more carbs at the end of the day than the beginning.

Thank you. I’m really enjoying my yogurt snack.

Hi Drummer, I really like the sound of this and want to try it but, maybe being a bit dim here. I’m confused at the part I’ve highlighted. Also, what type and how much yoghurt do you use!

It would be a 500ml pot, and to get the last bit out, I put the cold water into it, stir it around and then add to the jelly to make it one pint of water for the two sachets of jelly.
I have used full fat greek style yoghurt from Lidl - actually thinking about it, they now do it in 1 litre pots, so that would do two, just add the half pint of cold water to the bowl and save the rinsing out for the second half.

Thanks, Drummer. I’ll try it soon.

Just a final question. It seems quite a big batch. How long will it keep in the fridge?

I would expect it to last until the use by date of the yoghurt - it is usually eaten before then.....

Of course, that was a daft question ........ anyway I made a batch last night and it’s yummy.
