Congratulations. My late father did what you did. As soon as he was diagnosed, he completely changed his diet. He cut out sweets, drink, chocolate, sugar etc etc. He lost a lot of weight and went from 1 tablet a day, to half a tablet, to none. He played golf every day which also helped.

But, I've been Type 1 since 1964. My average score was recorded as 7.9 last week. And I have always eaten Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies every morning although nowadays, it's muesli, porridge or granola. On occasions, I even have Frosties if I 'need' to. I'm sure that, in the past, when I've been in hospital (as a youngster in the 60s and 70s), that corn flakes were served as a "Diabetic breakfast".

Great stuff Flakie. But as Trophywench says, ‘safe food’ often bites you back when you don’t expect it, so don’t take it for granted. ‘Pigging out’ on low carb protein sounds great but watch those accompanying calories ....... as much exercise as possible is the answer here.

Agreed! It’s all a balancing act isn’t it? I’m going to try a couple of meals I used to eat and start testing to see what happens but I know for sure I won’t be going back to my old bad habits. And I have started exercising again so hopefully that will help.

I’ve bumped my post back up with an interesting and, to my mind, fairly inexplicable result. This evening I had a piece of lean sirloin steak, roasted sweet potato chips and some leaf salad with some Parmesan shavings, a glass of red wine either side of the meal .... nothing that’s going to rock the boat based on previous experience. I was 5.5 ( lovely jubbly ) before the meal but two hours later was 9.4 ( clean hands and fresh lancet ). :(😡😎

The wine perhaps? But if you’ve had all, this before then no rhyme or reason. Strange thing this Diabetes!
