Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi , Im diabete type 2 , I have stuck to a low carb diet (never cheated), I dont eat any sugary foods either, I'm also taking metformin .
When I first started testing glucose is was between 5.6 and 6.2. I have not changed diet , but now when I test it is always over 7. what could be causing this please .

There is the possibility of misdiagnosis and you are something more interesting.
I need to stick to very low carb to stay under 7mmol/l - under 40 gm of carbs a day.
What sort of things do you have to eat?

Hi , I eat chicken & salad , or tuna and salad, No salad dressings ! only drink water . I like carrots and humous and today I had a few walnuts .

Looks innocent enough - I have meat seafood, eggs, cheese - no humous as I seem able to get more out of legumes than their carb count would suggest.
Are you due to have a meeting with your GP soon?

Hi .It rather depends on when you are testing .
Ie are you testing just before eating then two hours after starting to eat , to see how the various carbohydrates affect you ,or just at other times.

Your dinners are low carb.

I wonder if @Drummer is right, that you may be something more interesting .
How did you come to be diagnosed, ie what drive you to Gp

My next test is June ! do you know if stress can elevate levels as my husband has cancer and this causes me a lot of stress and worry. Im sure Im doing something right with diet as my periods have returned which was a shock after a year.
shall I just keep going with the healthy eating, it's disheartening as Ive tried so hard .

I had all the classic symptoms of Diabetes type 2 , the nurse rang me and said my result was 63 , I got scared and thats when I changed my whole diet and Ive Never cheated in 5 weeks not once.

I am sorry to hear about your husband.
Yes stress can certainly affect your glucose levels , t h just about anything can.
Here is a link to a thread about The 42 factors that can affect BGs

Actually an Hb1ac 63 is not too bad , many of us were loads higher at diagnosis

Readings of 7 indicate good glucose control for a diabetic.
How far over 7 are you reading?
And are you taking readings before meals and then 2 hours after eating?

Welcome to the forum @Jillyfaw

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with your results, though I have to agree they are within the optimum range for people with diabetes.

Do you mind sharing which symptoms you were experiencing? Was it more frequent urination? Thirst? Fatigue? Did you unintentionally lose any weight? Did your symptoms come on suddenly, or over several years?

Sometimes people get classified as T2, which is the most common type of diabetes, but it later transpires that they are one of the more glamorous niche types like LADA or MODY. Not saying this applies in your case, but we see a few new arrivals on the forum who are later reclassified, and sometimes the first clue is unusual responses to treatment or meds.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband - that might very well be the reason for the increase in levels so perhaps just monitoring them and reporting to your GP - unless of course the numbers go on up and up or other symptoms appear
June is not that far away now, after all.
The practice nurse nattered at my mother in law over her readings when her husband was ill and the doctor said they were fine in the circumstances.
