When do you eat?

If I ate at the same time every day then I would be eating just for the sake of eating. I only ever eat when I'm hungry

We eat when we're hungry but to be honest it tends not to vary much, especially my daughter. Not because it makes any difference to her diabetes, but because she's hungry then! At weekends we get up later so all the meals are later by that much but still at regular intervals.
And of course school dinners are served at the same time every day anyway!

Breakfast and lunch I eat if if/when I'm hungry dinner we have at around the same time.

All the time.

Unless my blood sugars are very low I avoid breakfast, if they are below three then I have my usual mug of tea and a chocolate chip cookie, that takes me up to lunchtime when my sugars are high-ish - 8 or so, and then I avoid lunch. This is because I have a very small appetite and am not hungry. I eat dinner at about 7 pm and I really enjoy it. Because of my medications I have to go to bed quite early - about 8.30 and don't wake up until about 8 am so I always have some sort of snack on my bed table which I usually eat about 3 in the morning! It is usually a biscuit or two.

I'm a creature of habit. Monday to Friday my meals have to fit around work, the only variation is in my evening meal which only tends to go about an hour and a half either way. Weekends are a very different story and totally unpredictable!

I kind of just eat whenever I want to. I always eat breakfast within half an hour of waking. Tbh, it's usually the first thing I do. After that, it differs. I may be hungry by 12pm so have lunch or I may wait until tea time without eating.

Some days I literally just want to eat everything and anything. Other days I only eat about 200 calories. Probably explains why I struggle to lose weight!

If you're a T1 on MDI or a pump you can in theory eat what you want, when you want. However, I wouldn't suggest eating doughnuts all day. Most people are creatures of habit and tend to have the same range of things at similar times. However with MDI you have the flexibility to alter timings or miss meals if you wish to.

I tend to eat at odd times of the day, rarely at the same time apart from maybe breakfast, and it can play havoc with my levels. Made even worse if my levels are high I delay having a meal until they come down, other days it catches me out and have to eat early as my quirky body decides to let the meds work overtime and can be close to hypo. I am very quirky in that I am meds intolerant in a lot of cases and also can't get on with gliclazide as it never works in the same way for me day to day, stroll on insulin soon fingers crossed.

I only eat breakfast about once a month. If I eat breakfast, I don't usually eat at lunchtime. Lunch is usually between 1and 2, evening meal around 8 to 8.30, occasionally a bit later. That's a hangover from working, but it does mean I don't need any snacks before bed.

In all that, I keep an eye on things with the Libre and can snack anytime based on that.

I tried skipping breakfast (cos I'm often feeling very nauseous) but need something to stop the morning glucose dump, so now I'll usually have a yoghurt and some berries or nuts, or at this time of year oatmeal. I occasionally have a full grill up (I rarely fry stuff nowadays), I do this rarely because good quality bangers and stuff expensive. If I have breakfast I find I eat less the rest of the day, but if I start out hungry, I stay hungry it seems. I'm lucky in a way that I can eat what and when I want to as I cover it with insulin.

If you're T2 and not on insulin, eating at regular times (and incidentally taking your meds at regular intervals) can help stabilise numbers, but everyone knows life gets in the way so this is not always possible. It's worth making the effort though, as I'm told it really can help.

As a person who has to watch what I eat (calories and carbs), I tend to eat at fairly regular times. As much as I would like to eat only when I'm hungry, I would have to drink water first to make sure it wasn't thirst, then, if it was really hunger it could take 45 minutes to prepare a meal which could lead to eating stupid stuff before the meal is ready. Hunger is a very strange thing, if I'm busy I tend not to feel hungry, if I'm having a lazy day on the other hand, the brain seems to think of food more often.

I eat at the same time every day, because as a family we always eat together ( apart from breakfast) so we have meals at a set time so everyone knows when to expect them.

My eating times vary for breakfast & lunch but dinner is usually around 8pm. I tend to have breakfast when going to work, but forget when at home. Always have a fry up on a Sunday, but tends to be about 11am, then have nothing until dinner.

I have always tried to eat at the same times, being a creature of habit.
If I have to eat too late I always feel out of sync and don'enjoy the food.

Weekdays it's usually set times but at weekends it can vary. I do tend to leave a gap of at 5 hours between meals and avoid carbs between meals.

I'm a bit of a creature of habit mealtimes wise. I'm always hungry at breakfastime and most able to tolerate carbs then. I have a light lunch and main meal with the family which I always cook from scratch with good ingredients but I never eat a meal later than about 6.30pm
