What are you reading?

Hoping I can concentrate more now they have removed some of the tablets from my "Dolly Mixture"! Have just started reading "The Custom House Murder" by Mike Hollow. The area has been renamed Victoria Dock for some sort of political correctness and most middle-aged and older people used the old name. I have known some people there for 40 years.

I read James by Percival Everett last week. It was brilliant and I sped through it. Very much recommend.

I think I've mentioned this before, but over the past 18 months or so I've jotted down a list of books that I'd like to read, suggested by friends, or referred to in other books, YouTube Videos and so on
Starting this year, January 2025 I finally made a start on them and ordered a couple at a time from the library
Some were available from Lancashire Libraries, some were unavailable, not even with a national search, and for one book the librarian said she'd heard of it and instead of ordering it, bought it for the libraries

I read most of the books I received but for one I just couldn't take to it, and gave up after a couple of chapters, despite the fact that others thought it was excellent and had read it 2 or 3 times (Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov if you're interested; though I see that there is a free film version on YouTube, I might try again and watch that over the winter nights)

Now I have the last two on my list -

English Journey by J B Priestly

A Hero for High Times by Ian Marchant

I got them yesterday, and after a brief scan of each I'm fairly certain that I will read them both - we shall see.

Eat The Ones You Love by Sarah Maria Griffin. Little Shop of Horrors but make it lesbian and set it in Ireland. It’s narrated by the plant. I’m 2/3s of the way through and enjoying it a lot.

I've just bought a copy of The Old Straight Track by Alfred Watkins, pub 1925, in a charity shop

This is the book that started the whole Ley Line -- Grey Haired Hippy -- Mumbo Jumbo business
It's an interesting theory, though debunked now, but I thought that for 99p it was worth a read, or at least a serious scan to see what all the fuss was about.

As I mentioned in a recent Post I've just got a couple of books from the library, so I'll add this to my pile of unread books (as if I don't have enough already)

Just finished Neil Degrasse Tyson's Astrophysics for people in a hurry, very entertaining, even if I don't pretend to understand everything he talks about. Well worth a read.
Also half way through "Free Ride" by Norally Shoenmaker (aka Itchy Boots) on her 20k mile solo motorcycle ride/adventure around the globe....

Think I may have read that many years ago, also read a few others too. Do you watch any of Itchy Boots YT vids?

Finished The Companion by Lesley Thompson, struggled to read it to the end. I was disappointed as her books in The Detectives Daughter Books, I enjoyed.
Now started A Wicked Mercy by Bilinda P Sheehan.
