I wish! But we're all he's got at the moment so extended household for him being on his own and old xx

Hope the call comes through at a convenient time for you today @Kaylz, and that it is helpful.

I keep thinking about vitamins, but have only seem multivits in the supermarket, so may have to go online.

I just found a pot of Vit D and calcium in the back of my cupboard which are from Lidl so have started taking those. They are huge though!!! No idea when I got them so probably out of date and no sure if they still sell them but will use them up now that I have found them.... Takes a bit of psyching myself up to try to swallow the great things! Talk about horse pills!!

The receptionist said she'd put it down for 10-11 as that's the only time I could be 100% free so that's me sat waiting now, hopefully won't be waiting long as just want to speak to someone, my health is taking a back seat because of "others" I just want away from it all xx

It’s hard to get vitamin deficient these days, with so many foods, especially cereals and bread, are fortified with vitamins.
Only problem is that many T2s cut down, or eliminate, cereals and bread...

Plus there was a huge study about Vit D levels some years ago now in England, where they tested shedloads of people both in GP surgeries and hospitals both of the actual patients and staff - and reckoned that about 75% of us were deficient and commented if that was the case in England, it was more than likely that people further north (ie Scotland and N Ireland) had even less.

I think vitamin D would be a good idea, not sure what is the recommended dose though, I am wondering if you could get it prescribed.
I asked my GP for a blood test for my vitamin D levels - mine are so low, I've been prescribed an intensive course to help bring them up! It takes 3-4 months to see significant improvements.

Due to age etc they won't entertain prescribing but he told me to look into Vitamins A, D and K, guy was quieter than a church mouse and so unprofessional when his mobile started ringing in the background, obviously went to have a look to see who it was as seemed to forget he was supposed to be talking to me! xx

Kaylz, I’ve learned that medics are generally pretty uninformed about vitamin supplementation and even my Consultant and GP struggled with sorting out a Vit D regime for me (even though there’s credible and compelling evidence as to its need with the cancer I have). The recommended dosage is actually far too low for my needs but they’ve never bothered to re-test!

This is the NHS website;

As you don’t get much sunlight, 1,000 IU (International unit) could be a good starting point but check that dosage with your doctor. You may need less as you’re slightly built. It’s efficacy is said to be increased by Vit K. It’s easily bought on Amazon. I’m not a vitamin pill popper but I’m convinced as to the need for Vit D supplementation especially for us in the northern hemisphere. I’ve also read of studies into its positive impact on diabetic retinopathy and it’s protective properties has been recognised during Covid which is why the CEV have been offered it free for 4 months.
Just to add that the NHS are giving people 10 micrograms of vitamin D which is equal to 400 IU. It’s a maintenance dosage and many medical experts in this area say it’s far too low. I know it’s difficult for you to be tested however to see if you’re deficient. That would be the ideal.

Sorry it did not meet your expectations.

@Amigo thanks but I'll just go with the NHS guidelines at the moment as took enough to get that call and wasn't a pleasant experience, even if I was going out he said due to age etc they wouldn't test me anyway xx

Well, if you don't know exactly what vitamins are missing in your body, you can try taking a vitamin cocktail, a mix. Vitamins definitely will not harm you, and in this way, you can replenish all the necessary vitamins in the body. Because of diabetes, my immune system is significantly weakened, and therefore I take this vitamin cocktail. You can watch IVs. Naturally, I do this procedure only with the permission of my doctor. Maybe you have any contraindications. Take care of yourself and be healthy.

I read that they can harm you though. A lady did her liver in by taking too many. :(

Vitamins most definitely can harm you eg an excess of Vit A can cause liver problems, and an excess of Vit B6 can cause nerve damage. I’d avoid any dubious cocktails and either take a high street one or speak to your GP for advice.
