Looking for recommendations for some vitamins, as I've not been out since March I suspect I'm greatly lacking so any links etc would be greatly appreciated 🙂 xx

I think vitamin D would be a good idea, not sure what is the recommended dose though, I am wondering if you could get it prescribed.

Scotland aren't prescribing Vit D whereas England are and I'm not confident to go and get tested to see if I am lacking so there isn't a hope there lol xx

Have you looked at Morrisons range, you could put on your food shop with them?

Vitamin D is very cheap to buy online. I know that’s a relative judgement of expense but it’s something like £10 for enough for a year at a standard high dose (4,000IU)

I’m currently taking two vitamin d plus a multi vitamin and magnesium daily.

I won't be shopping online anymore as can't afford to and when I checked yesterday to try and add to my last order due today there were none in stock! xx

A use Nu U multivitamins. On Amazon they are £16.97 for 365 tablets

@Kaylz - If you haven't been outdoors for almost a year, it's odds-on your Vitamin D will be low, if not very low.

I have my Vit D tracked because of my thyroid issues, so I have a handle on what's going on. I supplement throughout the year, although in the summer I reduce the dose. Many stop supplementing in summer, but because I have thyroid issues, it is important to keep my levels in a good place.

In your shoes, I would consider these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vitamin-D3...=vitamin+k2&sprefix=vitamin+d3,aps,178&sr=8-2

£5.99 (delivered) for 3 months supply at a decent level, or this one, at just under £10, for a year:

I appreciate cash is tight for you, but Vitamin D is a cornerstone to our metabolic and bone health, and the added K2 influenced the take-up of calcium to our bones, rather than sloshing around in our systems.

Vitamin D levels have also been found to be influencial in how someone copes with COVID, if they are unfortunate enough to contract it.

We have also been taking 1gr Vitamin C per day; not because we think we are deficient, but because it also seems to positively impact on coping with COVID. (Any excess VitC is just passed in urine, so it's a low risk strategy, in my opinion.)

And finally, we also supplement magnesium. It is understood to help with sleep. I have always slept well, but my OH has a history of night time waking, which this has helped. As I understand it, there is no reliable test for magnesium levels. Getting the right magnesium for any given individual can be time consuming (in terms of reading), so maybe one to put on the back burner for now, unless you suffer with cramps, tingling or numbness, in which case, it's time to see the Doc or do some reading on supplementing.

As I say, that's my approach.

Cheers guys, I've also emailed my DSN to ask her advice/opinion, I would've asked her on the phone as she was supposed to call me on the 15th but she never has so....

Could also take her a while to reply as she only does 3 days, hoping 1 of them is Wednesday though!
xx

I’m another one who takes magnesium.
i used to get cramps quite badly and it has effectively knocked those on the head.

Hope you get a speedy response from the DSN @Kaylz

Home bargains mega cheap for vits my friend, The Range another.

Everyone should supplement with vit D, heard it said by leading neurologist so good enough for me. Take it with K2-MK7 vit C Magnesium B vit complex CoQ10 Multivit, might sound lot but did own research & found these supplements can help with diabetes & exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, got diagnosed with EPI few years back so also take calcium tabs on prescription.

Thanks but I have none of those available to me so the cost of delivery from The Range they wouldn't work out very cheap! lol

Also no reply from the DSN yesterday 🙄
xx

Hi @Kaylz I use Multibionta. They have a very good selection of vitamins and minerals, and pro-biotics too. I get mine from the supermarket where they usually have 3 for the price of 2 offer on, making them work out at around £4 per tub of 30 tablets. I can feel the difference when I take them compared to when I don’t. They have Vit D in.

I'm not badgering you Kaylz, but the links I posted yesterday from Amazon were free delivery, which all helps. Also if someone you know has Amazon Prime, they can order for you and have things delivered to your address, free of charge.

My only comment on Multi-Vits is they are usually such a scattergun approach that there really isn't enough of anything to make a difference. It's far better, in my opinion, to supplement in a focused way, where necessary.

Just on a final point, I noticed on another thread you were having splits at the corner of your mouth (which have now healed). Vitamin B can be helpful for those, if they come back.

When you next have bloods of any sort done, Kaylz, it'd be useful to ask for a panel of vitamins and minerals. They're cheap tests, but can be really helpful in managing our health.

I agree about the B vitamins for a split mouth. I got my Vitamin D tested as part of my diabetic checks @Kaylz

Try bodykind on line they sometimes have good offers and they stock various brands
