Sorry to hear about your eye problems @pinnig

I used to get blurriness when my BG levels were high (changes in osmotic pressure distorting the lenses) and newly diagnosed people with blurry vision are often recommended to wait a while for their eyes to settle before getting glasses.

Hopefully it will just be temporary and will begin to clear up in time, but do get checked by an optician of mention it to your GP or nurse to be on the safe side - members here can only comment on their own experience, and some of the potential eye changes from rapid BG improvement do need checking out.

Thanks everyone. I also hope it's just a temporary response to having had high BG for too long and now dropping so quickly.

During Friday's appointment/telephone call with the DSN she did say she would email the consultant about the eyesight issue. I have a further call on Friday with her so hoping that if the consultant is also concerned perhaps they may suggest some screening.

In the meantime I have allowed my BG to rise slightly by introducing a few more carbs, walking a little less distance at a slower pace as I'm not sure about lowering my insulin dose. It's all too new to me to fully control but all of your help is invaluable.

Thank you

Chilling reading and I wish someone had warned me 5 weeks ago - in fairness my eyes are weird anyway as I have kerataconus in one eye - but I experienced additional blurriness in the run up to Xmas. Luckily my GP has referred me for a retinopathy exam which is next week. Pinnig - I hope you get yours soon too.

Just thought I add a quick update. This forum is fantastic for checking out problems and issues but often there's no end to the story. I'm pleased to say that for now, in my journey, the vision problem has pretty much righted itself.

I did let my BG come up a bit and over the last week the blurriness has almost completely gone. Still feel it a bit when I'm really tired but mostly I can see as I should do with my specs on.

I've worked hard on eating well - low carb, and daily exercise and over the past week have maintained my BG in a normal range. Spoke to the DSN yesterday for some advice as I am dropping low when walking hard and fast. I'm clearer now about knocking a few units off my novorapid to avoid having to fish in my pockets for wine gums.

Things are looking up....

Well done - and to the DSN as well for not suggesting that you increase you intake of carbs to 'match' the insulin.
Hopefully the blurriness will resolve completely as you get used to normal numbers.

Thanks Drummer and I agree. Having read so many posts about poor HCP advice I was really pleased when he said not to eat more carbs to match the insulin. Instead, reduce the insulin to my food and exercise. Its a tough gig keeping it all in tune but I'm learning!

I have been told that my diet must be difficult to stick to - but as it means no medication and normal numbers I have to disagree. I think I have things quite easy, all things considered.
