Update on tummy troubles

Some of you may know that I've been hugely bloated and in abdominal pain for the past month. I had a gastroscopy which didn't find anything beyond my stomach being "tortuous to navigate"! They took some biopsies which are currently being grown. Although I thought they said I had a hernia, I must have misheard as it's not on the results. It's not easy getting everything right when you've a tube down your throat!

Today I had a ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis plus a vaginal probe to check my ovaries, which were ok. However, they've found a 5.2cm mass in my liver, although my LFTs are normal, which I'm trying to take as a good sign.

So now it's an urgent referral for more tests and a CT scan. I must say, the NHS have been brilliant in finding all this out in just 4 weeks. I'm not returning to work, will be on sick leave until the 5th May which is the day I officially retire.

In the meantime I'm going to try and live as normal a life as possible, and trust in the good old NHS to try and fix me. I'm proud to have worked for them despite retiring shortly.

I'll continue to log in here on occasion and give you an update once I know what's going on! Thanks for being here for me, even if it's not diabetic related, though they did say there was a lesion as well near the pancreas, so I do hope that's not affected as well.

The fact they have found something means you can have a plan of action. Hopefully the investigations have given a clean bill of health to parts of our body we usually ignore. I hope family friends and colleagues can provide that perfect web of kindness knowledge and advice. Wishing you well.

Oh gosh @Vonny how worrying for you - but as you say, it’s great that they’ve found all this out in just a few weeks, and that they are now fast-tracking the further investigations.

Hope the lump ends up being benign and easily operable.

Sending positive vibes your way. We are all rooting for you <3

Very sorry to hear that the scan showed up some anomaly @Vonny but hopefully whatever it is can be sorted very soon, and great that you have been prioritised for more checks - wishing you all the very best :care:

Really sorry to read that you have been feeling so horribly bloated and uncomfortable but it sounds like they are investigating thoroughly and promptly. Fingers crossed the CT scan identifies the issue more clearly and that it can be easily fixed. I can understand that it must be a very worrying time for you and sending my love and very best wishes for the problem to be resolved quickly and easily and that you feel more comfortable soon. (((HUGS)))

Oh Vonny, my heart goes out to you. What a way to start your retirement. I hope that the further tests give you more clarity and that the NHS can fix the issues they have picked up. Sending my best wishes xx
:care:<3

Just massive hugs and more of the same, at least they've found out you do have something that's not right and the sooner they can discover what is actually wrong, only then can they start trying to fix it. And fix it for you, they will.

I wish you good luck - and patience. :care: <3

It must be a worrying time for you but I hope my story helps. I am currently feeling well and enjoying retirement and have seen three grandchildren who were not born at the start of this journey. In 2016/2017 I had a lot of tummy trouble. Eventually, I went to the GP. I had blood tests, tried some meds, gastroscopy and more meds. Then colonoscopy. It found a growth on the colon. The biopsy revealed it was cancerous. It is hard to describe how I felt - devastated at the finding, grateful that it had been found, trusting in the medical staff etc. That led to CT scan and MRI scans. The end result was that the cancer had metastasised (thank goodness for spell check on that word) to the liver. The result has been, a colectomy, a stoma, a stoma reversal, three liver sections, chemotherapy and a couple of radio ablations on the lung. It sounds quite a journey but I am grateful that the GP took my stomach complaint seriously. She had suspected cancer but decided to rule out other things before going down that route. I am grateful that she took my complaints seriously and the various surgeons and nurses have been wonderful. The NHS administration sometimes drives all of us to distraction (the medical staff and me) but, so far, a successful outcome.

Sorry to read your news, at least you are seeing the correct people. Take care...

Got called for a CT scan the day after my ultrasound! Had the results this afternoon. Sadly I appear to have inoperable cancer of the gall bladder. They are referring me for an MRI scan and biopsies, and have sent the CT results to the specialist team in Sheffield before any treatment and prognosis can be given.
Part of me feels really angry that this has happened the day after I became a pensioner, and after I've worked so hard on my diabetes. In addition to working hard my entire life, paying my taxes and NI and will end up not getting my pension for very long. The other half thinks "que sera sera", we must all go some time.
So, depending on health, I may not continue on this forum for very long, in which case I thank you all for your amazing support during the last 5 years battling diabetes xx

I struggled to find words to express support. Anything I write will be insufficient but the best I can do is to wish you well and hope that the specialist team can find something to ease your symptoms and control the cancer.

@Vonny - that is so beyond rubbish. I don't have words to express things at the moment, but would just urge you to continue to take very great care of yourself, and take support where it is offered. This is a bewildering and exhausting time for you.

Oh Vonny, I’m so very sorry to hear this. We never know what’s just round the corner, do we. Wafting you all the strength I can muster to get you through the next few days and weeks, and then for whatever life can offer.
