UNSURE ON MY BACKGROUND INSULIN NEED ADVICE

Well anything with a very flat profile would never work for my body. One may assume that one needs the same amount every hour of every day and night (in the absence of extra activity or any food) but getting a pump and the intense basal testing you need to do in the first couple of months, proved to me that my body's requirements and FAR from even! it's gobsmacking where a rate adjustment of 100th of a unit of insulin during one or other particular hour, can make such a big difference to your control.

Obviously I'm not permanently adjusting rates by such a teeny amount - but you could if you wanted to be that ruddy OCD !

Ok so guys I reduced my background to 0 at night because I kept going hypo off 1/2 and I’ve just have a hypo at 5.30. How is this possible to have a hypo when I took NO insulin???

That's the trouble with Lantus - it can hang around in your system for ages and suddenly peak when you're not expecting it. Really does sound like it's the Lantus which is causing your problems.

CGM stands for continuous glucose monitor - like the Libre, but a swisher system which has an alarm when you hypo. Some of them can be connected to a pump. Virtually no-one gets them on the NHS, but they will lend them out for a week or two to people who have major problems with hypos. Some people fund their own, but they are very expensive.

It definitely sounds like it is your Lantus that is the issue. Not the 1/2 unit at bedtime but your morning dose which is still active at night. You know what it am going to suggest (that split Levemir again). See if they will give it a try.

How do you bolus for a protein meal? I know you have to count it as 50% carbs but do you take like half upfront then half like 1hout later or all later? I had chicken bacon salad took 2 units as chicken was 20g ( really 40g) went hypo then went high after

I find that if I have scrambled eggs, I don't bolus for it, but I need a unit of insulin about 3 hours later. I've never worked out the insulin ratio, it's just what I seem to need to do. So if may just be a case of trial and error.
