Understanding libre email

Yes, I did read that in the manual of Libre 2, which would be good for me, but it defeats the objective of no longer finger-pricking does it not? I would be using it for 3/4 meals per day, as I'm not very good with numbers and complicated workings outs
It's not no longer figer pricking at all. But ad @Bruce Stephens said there are apps for bolus calculator and if it works for you then yes you can do less

Here's a link to the limations of cgms which might be useful for you to read

Yes, you'd still be finger pricking before each meal. (Probably less at other times, though, so it might be a reduction.) I agree it's a bit silly that the reader doesn't work from sensor readings; I presume they couldn't get regulatory approval to allow that.

There will be far less needed once it becomes familiar, it gives valuable tools to monitor our diabetes, high/low alarms and the ability if the phone app is left open to see levels in real time which i find fantastic.
Thanks, I read that in the information I found out allready from reading up on the manaual that readly avaible, I'm glad that it works for you 🙂

Thanks, that is what I'm cocerned about, it does seem silly and I'm glad you agree with me regarding this, this is what I thought when as well that NICE did not give this approval for that, I do hope that will happen one day 🙂

I'm splitting hairs slightly but it wouldn't be NICE. I think it would be FDA (in the US), MHRA in the UK, and presumably EMA in the EU. And all that would rely on Abbott actually proposing offering this feature.

I'd guess they're not going to be interested in doing that, and it's much more likely they'd want the phone apps to offer a bolus calculator. The phone apps can scan Novo Nordisk smart insulin pens, so that seems to me to offer a better platform for fancier features than the readers (which don't seem to be a priority for Abbott).

Thanks, I will give them a look into 🙂 Also, I will read the limitations as well 🙂

Oh okay, I'm not sure which was it was!! MHRA would rely on Abbott proposal it would be a great idea, but it would likely never happen

I do hope they will be interested one day as there are plenty of people like myself, hopefully, that would like a function like this, phone apps seem to be everywhere and there are still people who do not have smartphones, I don't have a smart pen, so it will be have something else!

Remember also that if you drive you will need to carry a fingerprick blood glucose meter with you every time you drive, even if you have checked bg on the sensor

@rosy_nic will you be using your the LibreLink phone all the Libre Reader?
I ask because, if you are using your phone, it maybe easier to use a phone app to calculate your insulin dose based on your Libre reading rather than extra finger pricking. I assume you will have to copy the value from LibreLink to the dose calculator app but this feels like less effort and making better use of the Libre.

Sorry, I do not know the name of any dose calculator apps (as an engineer, I am one of those annoying Maths nerds) but your DSN should be able to help.

I have ocanisoly used myLife it does give the exact amount so you would have to round up or down to nearest half unit/unit (depending on what pen you have)

I don't know yet, as I'm not set up, I have a webinar that you do, to set yourself up and I suppose you use the phone link instead of the reader, as it might not be available to use for all patients, we have not got there yet. I wanted to ask those questions before I went ahead.

A phone app not always be useful for me as, as I can not always have access to my phone at work, which is not helpful

Thanks, I'm going to have to look into these apps

Thanks, I will keep that one in mind, I have a Lilly cartridge pen and Lantas
I meant weather you had a half unit pen or not.

Thanks for all your replies, to this thread, I have put some of these questions to my DSN, they had the same answers as some of these on this thread which does not help, nor does what I think the content of the webinar will be, which is probably how to use and apply the Libre, which you had find on the internet! Hopefully when I get some more info, I will get some idea wether to go ahead or delay till April

I'd hope that would just be the beginning, and they'd offer some help in how to interpret the values (warning not to react too quickly to most indications, for example). Only one way to find out, I guess. Since it's an online thing it shouldn't be too annoying.

Hopefully, I just want to know what is in the webinar, I don't like to go to these things and not know what will be covered in it, you would not go to a webinar for first aid if it did not cover first aid!! I do find these things annoying! I do prefer a face-to-face interaction though, but everything is online now, which is a shame!

I had an online course for libre. It didn’t teach me anything I didn’t already know. They showed a lot of videos from the libre website. The only useful part was that if you stayed till the end of the session the DSN wrote a letter to your GP asking to prescribe libre.
