Does anyone have a diet sheet for type 2, just had a telling of from the doctor and I really need hep to loose some weight.

Many people have been given diet sheets from doctors or dieticians, which are of variable legibility, usefulness etc.

You may find it more useful to look in the Weight Loss Group section of this forum.

Do remember that it's not just about food, but also about exercise / physical activity.

Hi Sally, your doctor should be encouraging you not berating you - very poor of him/her! :(

Unfortunately, there is no 'one-size-fits-all' diet sheet for people with Type 2, since people's tolerances for different foods can vary considerably. It is better to learn some general principles of the types of food that are suitable for you, paying regard to your preferences as well as how you react to different things. I'd recommend getting a book about the GL (Glycaemic Load) diet. You can have a healthy, varied diet, it just takes planning and a bit of compromise here and there. Nothing is forbidden, but common sense needs to be applied for 'treats'! The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction about how to choose food that will release its energy slowly and steadily, and thus have less of an impact on your blood sugar levels. As well as this, you might want to look at Rick Gallop's Express GI Diet, which follows similar principles, but is designed to also help you lose weight.

As Copepod says, it is a great help if you can include some daily exercise in your routine as this will help to burn calories and also help greatly with your blood sugar levels 🙂
 
As a formerly 'morbidly obese' T2 (now just 'obese' and heading towards 'overweight'), Slimming World did it for me. There's lots of stuff for diabetics on the website, and I'm not the only T2 to get the bg under control by shedding a few stone. Some PCTs will fund the first 12 weeks, others (like mine) won't. At a fiver a week, it's worth having a go if you can afford it.
 
Did your Doctor actually give you any useful advice to help you? I'd tell them off back if they didn't :D

If it was that easy all the diabetics here would have shared the secret and we would all be thin!

I've found moderate walking to be very useful - it doesn't cause the glucose level drops that more rigorous forms of exercise can. Also you need to be burning off your stored triglycerides therefore going for a moderate to low carb diet might be helpful if you are not already doing that. Remember not all fats are bad and the right sort of fats are ok if you stay within the calorie count!
 
I also joined Slimming World and that has done the trick for me. Very little information from the GP surgery and no-one can really give advise without knowing more about you and any other health issues you have.

Lose weight is key. Do that by following a healthy diet so increase your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables, reduce your input of processed foods and ditch anything sugary including drinks - even those that are supposedly diet drinks!! Exercise but start gently and never do more than you can safely. Try walking at first. The "old park in the first car parking space from where you are going" at first building up to walking round shopping malls a few times. No idea how overweight you are or even if you are overweight!!! Do go onto the Weight Loss board on this forum and read some of the early posts.
 
I've lost 10% of my body weight following the Filling and Healthy part of the WeightWatchers plan. I'm waiting for recent test results and hope to see a significant improvement in my readings.. I'll keep you posted! The filling and healthy way means I'm not having to weigh and measure everything and I really don't feel as if I'm being deprived at all..!

Ask your GP for a referal to a Diabetes Specialist Dietician. The dietician will ask what you eat and develop a plan to will help you lose weight. Worked for me!
