Type 2
Hi everyone, my name is Lorrain I am 52yrs old and I live in Winchester, Hants. Been Type 2 for about 2 years now, was on Humalin but was not working anymore so changed today to Humalog 3 times a day and then Lantus in the evening. HATE being Diabetic, still making mistakes and scouring the internet for ideas, especially cakes. On humalin did not have a sugar reading below 21.0 Hence the new bolus insulin change. Also Metformin 500mg twice a day.

Hi Welcome. Now you're on MDI (multiple daily injections) you should find you get much better control of your BGs.
We all make mistakes, I've made some right whoppers since I went on insulin.
We have some great cooks on here, who often post their successes and odd disaster. Have a look on our carb queries and recipe section.
Feel free to ask questions, well do our best to help.

Welcome Lorraine. Everyone on here is very helpful. You will learn a lot by reading various posts

Been reading up like mad and just getting more and more confused. I have learnt that certain foods are a complete no no, i.e. pizza sends my bg through the roof and so does weetabix but shredded wheat is ok as is sugar free alpen. Just left a message for my DSN to see if there are any information courses I can go on to help me understand more. BG has not been lower than 22.1 for months and last night I dropped to 7.1 after 10 Humalog and had a symptoms similar to a hypo as my body not used to it (dsn did warn me it might happen), did scare the pants of me! Got GP appt next week and I will get my Hba1c results of her, my last one was in her words "horrific" hence the change in insulin. Found loads of good information on here, will keep reading and reading and reading. Did notice soemthing strange last night though, my 4yr old Bichon Frise 'Peanut' started acting strangely, stratching my legs frantically, and really crying, could she picked up on the sudden drop in my sugar level or is that just a myth???

From different people posting on here we all seem to have different tolerances to various foods. Also sometimes it can be the amount of the food , so adjusting how much can make a difference!

Peanut sounds like Poppy, she gets really annoying when my readings are low or high.

Regarding the false hypos, yes they do feel real, especially when you have been so high for so long.

With MDI you get your life back and can take control.

I run my BG between 5.5 and 7.5 and 90% manage to get within these figures. It will take a short time to find your radio, but once you do there will be no stopping you.

Hi again. False hypos feel just like real hypos's, it's just your body complaining because it has been used to running on much higher BGs or your BGs are dropping very fast. Eating a small amount can ease false hypo symptoms. For the real ones always have your preferred treatment handy ie You don't want to be dealing with stairs when hypo. Many here use jelly babies but as I'd scoff the lot soon after buying them I use glucose tablets instead or swig some fruit juice.
Listen to peanut when she starts acting strange our pets have stronger senses than we have.
