Welcome to the forum @Womble70

Sorry to hear you have been having a hard time with your diabetes, but glad you have joined us.

Having the ‘hive mind’ of the forum to consult, with centuries of lived diabetes experience, and a range and variety of different approaches to diabetes management can be a real source of support, suggestions, and inspiration.

How do you currently treat your diabetes? Are you on amy medications? Is there anything in particular you struggle with? What are the main areas where you’d like to see improvement, and what would that improvement look like for you?

I am on metformin 2 tabs twice daily
Gliclazide 2 tabs twice daily
Alogliptin 1 tab once daily

I regularly take my blood sugars at home. They were in check, always around 5, 6 or 7, but for the last 4 months they have never been in single figures, always in the 20s first thing and can go down to 15 or 16 by lunch and then maybe if I'm lucky I get 11,10 or 9 at evening meal. I am doing nothing different. I walk every day as I have dogs and it's always at least 2 miles. I do a workout 3 times a week. I watch what I eat, am careful with carbs, could still do with losing more weight, but at 52 that's getting harder and harder it seems. I have been in touch with my doctor in desperation but 8 weeks later am still waiting for help despite the numerous calls I make. I'm so worried about neuropathy although I have just "passed" my annual check, I'm worried about retinopathy too. Any ideas of what more I can do apart from drink water and eat tissues?

Welcome the forum. Some thing has obviously changed in that has affected the ability of your body to cope with carbohydrates. You are taking quite a lot of medication but I wonder if your diet had slipped and you are eating more carbs as that is the main thing that will push up blood glucose levels.
If you have had COVID that is something that people have found has increased their level.
It may be worth while keeping a food diary for a few weeks and estimating how many carbs you are having as it may be then that is something you need to look at in making a reduction. Many people find they need to go lower than the 130g per day suggested for a low carb dietary regime.
What would be typical meals for you, there may be something that people might spot as being something which may be an issue.

Hi Womble, do you measure what you eat in an app? it can be helpful to see exactly how many carbs you eat to try to work on the BG levels. I try to keep to 60g a day max. I use myfitnesspal free which works v well for me. I got too fat and got type 2 now losing weight.
