It's very individual, @belugalad, some people can tolerate foods that send others sky high! If I ever have porridge I have jumbo oats, not any refined stuff, and it's not too bad. This is why testing with a meter is so good as you can see immediately what effect different foods have.

I don't know much about rapeseed oil, I use olive oil mostly or sometimes butter depending on what I'm doing. NB I quite like kippers but the pong tends to linger... 😱

Hi @Pine Marten, yes that's very true about the pong but needs must, I used to do them in the microwave and give it a major clean afterwards, with regards to testing, how often do you need to do it once you have done the initial testing after different foods/meals to see what suits when you first start out?I didn't ever spare many thought to the mechanics of the body besides food entering and leaving the body,I'm sure I'm going to be learning a lot about the liver and how food is processed soon when I manage to see the team at my GP's in a couple of weeks

It depends really, @belugalad (as with a lot of things) - I still usually test in the morning and before bed, and if I'm having anything new. My review is coming up in a few weeks so I like to keep track. Some people test a couple of times a week or less, or before & after exercise, so again it's very individual. One of the reasons some doctors give for not issuing type 2s with meters is that you'll become obsessive o_O or won't understand the results 🙄, but that is nonsense!

When you see your team it's a good idea to write down any questions - if you're like me you'd forget as soon as you walk in the room...

Hi
@Pine Marten a member kindly provided me with a link to Amazon that I have saved for a meter,I hope the nurse is happy to provide lancets and strips when I need them as I'm a full time carer at home for my mother,so I have little money, they may well not take that in to consideration though, and yes I will take my notebook with lots of questions,do you have to visit them often?I suppose that depends on an individuals needs though.

I hope they do take it into consideration, @belugalad, though my surgery flatly refused, saying the NHS didn't allow them to provide meters and strips. You can but ask.

I have an annual review since I kept my HbA1c in the 'normal' range - though to be accurate I did have a medication review in December (I've got high BP pills) and the GP and I chatted about the D too. Also, the D nurse has been on maternity leave, so I had to see someone else for the review, and they have rejigged it again this year. All good fun!
