Diabetes UK

Know Diabetes. Fight Diabetes
Staff member
We've been working with young adults to produce videos about their stories of living with Type 1 diabetes.

Today we're sharing Max's story, about a night that didn’t go to plan when he had a hypo, and his friends had no idea he had Type 1 diabetes.

Max's Story on Facebook

We want to encourage people to open up about the ups and downs of growing up with Type 1 diabetes, and share their experiences.

We’ve also produced a series of videos on university and sex and relationships.

If you would like to support the campaign, you can help get the message out by sharing videos on social media.

@Hannah DUK - One of the videos makes a good point that there are no courses or the like for partners/carers. Is this something that DUK is looking at?

Hi @Greyhound Gal, we know that diabetes doesn’t just impact on the person living with the condition. It also has a huge impact on family members and friends. While we don’t have plans to develop a course for partners or carers, we are always looking to make sure we’re producing the information people need to help them manage their diabetes – or support a loved one who has the condition.

Are there any topics or issues in particular that you think we should be addressing when it comes to looking after a family member or friend with diabetes?

I thought they covered everything on the NHS course? They certainly encouraged my mother to take partner/carers with her (up to 3 people i think) My father went with my mother and was given info on everything, snacks to carry, how to store meds even how to inject her with adrenaline.
