Hiya chaps and chapettes,

Got back from hospital at 11, slept since then, eye drops now worn off etc!

OMG, the lense bit was wierd and uncomfortable and then she said it painless but some experience 'pin prick' feeling...I was one of those who did!

It was sooooooo painful, it felt more like a needle pricking and then pulling the vein/vessel taut, got a massive headache, understandable and I also found it alien that my eyes were streaming with tears, even my nose started!!!

THing is, she only did the lower parts of both eyes....I have to go back for the upper part(!) Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh. At least I can prepare and know what to expect!

After the first eye, I had a break and couldn't face the second, I had a diva moment or more like a childish tantrum. Started again, pulled away as my second eye kept 'jumping' and the doc got quite rude with me and that upset me more than the treatment!!! I can't help my reflexes and if it makes me 'jump'. Its such a weird and unnatural situation!!! She was trying to rush me, just so glad to be out of there!

Anyway, made up for it by being pampered all day by mother and o/h!!!!!! As my mum has said, her uncle went blind from T1 Diabetes and in his day none of this treatment was available so at least I am lucky in that sense!!!!

Thanks for all the messages of good luck and others experiences, maybe I am just a wuss when it comes to pain...how on earth will I cope with childbirth which is my next plan!!!!! Oh well, at least its fun to practice! 😛
Love, Suze

Sorry to hear you found it painful Suze, I hope the next session is much better for you 🙂

sorry to hear about the pain but deep breath part one is done and you know what to expect next time...at last an honest account i kept being told that there nothing to it half an hour and your done:confused: meantime my brain going i dont think so...

Sorry it was worse than you were expecting. Next time, make sure you tell them about this experience before they get started, as they might be able to use different eye drops and / or different timings.

Childbirth feels very different to any other pain, partly because no other pain leads to a baby! Plus, there's lots of help available, both before birth to help you and partner etc to prepare, and also techniques and medications and treatment to help during labour. So, don't panic just yet - there's plenty of time to learn what you need to know.

So sorry to hear that it hurt as mine was genuinely pain free for the maculopathy BUT when theY attempted to laser holes in my eyes for the glaucoma That really hurt and they couldn't complete the second eye due to the amount of pain. As it happened they also hadn't made the hole big enough in the first eye so when I went back for the second lot of laser I had paracetamol, Neurofen AND tramadol an hour before and then the pain was manageable.....but I honestly thought that pain was only because they were putting holes in my eyes

This whole thread is SO scary. I have to go back for another sight check in Sep as I have some background retinopathy... I hate the idea of any eye treatment at all..... Yikes. :(

Please don't think it's scary the pain disappears into the past very quickly and for many eye laser is completely pain free

Why are we so wimpy about eyes? I was terrorised by my optician 2 years ago when he told me I have the start of cataracts - they don't knock you out for that nowadays, eek! -live in fear of having to have em done ....

Have to say though, I had a cyst removed on a lower eyelid at the local eye hopsital, it was growing inside my eyelashes so always felt like I had something in my eye, luckily in the outer corner. I can quite honestly state that by gar the worst part of that was the local anaesthetic injected into the slin under my eye, the surgeon talked to me throughout and as soon as she took the needle out massaged the skin quite vigorously to help with the pain and it went numb really quickly. Also my head was in a really really comfy clamp and then there was a nurse behind me who also held my head with her hands on the sides of my chin, I was instructed to look at me nose and in 2 minutes it was done.

So why am I so scared? I'm right there with you Suze.

Do you think you ought to have a little complain about how you were spoken to? - still if it made you able to keep your head still perhaps it was cruel to be kind? - I dunno?

Yep, eyes deffo are freaky freaky things!

I reckon my pain threshold must be sooooooooo low!!!

Of course, I'll look forward to the childbirth Copepod, and by the sounds of others accounts in the Pregnancy link, I'll likely be having a C Sect! 'too posh to push' eh!?! :D

Sorry if I have scared anyone, this totally was not my intention and I'm sure for most it will be pain free, and yes the pain does come and go quickly but as the laser is zapped periodically, when it wasn't zapping, I tended to work myself up and anticipate the pain of the next zap.

I will, for certain, be drugged up to the eyeballs(s'cuse the pun!!!!)😛

Thing is now that I am finding since waking from my sleep is my nose is continually running and I can't recognise it, my o/h is telling me when it is leaking(!) and my sense of taste is dull, hoping it is a temporary thing from all the drops I've had in, working their way out!!!!😱

I deeply sympathise with all those scared by the experience. Look, it took me until I was 54 to get brave enough to try contact lenses! :D

I'm glad you are back , safe and sound and deservingly getting lots of TLC. I think you are brave Suze, I'm one of the lucky ones and not had anything done to my eyes, fingers crossed.
As for childbirth, well it's a whole different experience and a beautiful little bundle at the end of it :D Sheena
