Tony went to the Doctors today, until I joined this forum we didn't know about the HbA1c, he has had regular blood tests since being diagnosed last November, and the Doctor has always said he was very pleased with his blood results, anyway, I asked Tony to ask about his HbA1c results and apparently they are usually 6 something, but this recent one was 8.5
The Doctor says it's because of the other issues he has at the moment, really bad Sciatica, his feet are swollen, due to water retention from not being able to move about as much as normal, also his cholesterol is raised. But on a positive note his blood pressure is down.
Oh nearly forgot to say he has low Potassium too, no wonder he feels awful at the moment :(

Sorry to hear about the rise in HbA1c :( I guess the best you can do given Tony's situation is keep an extra close eye on the carbohydrates in his food and try to keep levels within range that way if he is unable to exercise. I would imagine that the rise in cholesterol levels is related to the limits on activity - I know mine is much improved when I am running regularly.

Hi Girl sorry to hear your hubbys hbA was abit high, its not a million miles away from the 6.5 we strive for so please both of you dont lose heart,as you say theres been others factors regarding his health right now,so th is could of played its part.Pleased his BP is down though.

Thank you Northener and steff 🙂 No we won't let it get us down, it's just a little set back 🙂 I've borrowed a walking stick so he can come for a hobble when I walk the dog!

Start force feeding him bananas! I believe they contain potassium. 🙂

Sorry to hear about the setbacks though, I hope they're put behind you both pronto.

Andy 🙂

Yes Andy, he had this problem a couple of years ago, Doctor told him to take 2 bananas a day ..lol

Looking at things positively, Tony's HbA1c could have been a lot worse given his other problems at the moment. I hope things improve soon so you can work at getting his levels back down. Bananas and a walking stick? Sounds like you have a plan! XXXXX
