There’s a flock of electronic mosquitoes in my head, and I’m ready to do a murder. How on earth do you cope? If I try and drown it out with white noise/whales/sleep app stuff I need it set so loud that I can’t sleep, or (rain/waves) I’m running to the loo constantly.

It’s driving me mad. :(

You have my sympathy, mine is nowhere near as bad as yours. As yours is so bad I think you’d be wise to speak to your Gp as their may well be healp available.

Thanks Ljc, I think I’m going to have to, it’s keeping me awake too much. I just hate bothering him with yet another ‘thing’, plus if he wants to see me, it means a house call.

I also suffer with tinnitus some days it seems ok ish but do notice the levels seem pitchier if my stress levels are raised. As Ljc says maybe a doctors visit is in order if it's disturbing your sleep.

I notice mine most when I’m tired, it’s a vicious circle

I’ve had it 23 yrs Madeline and doctors haven’t a clue what to do. Stress and infection does increase it but it seems to have a complete mind of its own. Amazingly, you can learn to live with it.

Absolutely, mine is much worse when tired or stressed.

I’ve had it about 5 years now. Most of the time I can ignore it, but it does definitely get worse in occasions - mostly in the wee small hours.

I saw an ENT Consultant, a very smiley Indian guy and all he did was keep patting me on the leg, telling me to be happy and he’d get me some hearing aids! I swear I felt like lamping him! 🙄

Lol, I can imagine. I can’t have hearing aids apparently, as I have an auditory processing disorder. Presume it rules them out? Mine was a very smiley Indian guy too, obviously it makes them really happy, peering inside ears all day.

I didn’t even need hearing aids but he had no interest in tinnitus! 🙄

Hello Madeline, sorry I've only just seen this as I've been awol from the forum for a while. My Mum has bad tinnitus, and she also found having background noise didn't really work for her. Someone told her to sing songs in her head and she's found that's better - you concentrate on the words/tune you're singing and after a while it blocks out the tinnitus. I'm not sure it always works, and it may not work for you, but it's worth a try.

I only have it slightly and occasionally, but I don't get buzzing, I get doorbells - bing-bong, bing-bong. For a while before I realised what it was, I used to get up and answer the door and there would be no-one there ...

Oh yes! I do hear door knocks too. It’s really very irritating. Thank you for the singing tip, I’m going to give that a go.

If you have hearing deficiency a hearing aid may help. I play meditation tapes to help me relax and sleep. Living with tinnitus and hyperacusis is a good book. I think it’s available form British tinnitus association. Meditation and relaxation is the only way for me as I couldn’t tolerate the hearing aid.

Thank Sally, I’ll mention a hearing aid again, see what he says.

Hi, how does a hearing aid help with Tinnitus

I just read about it online. It masks the tinnitus?

Going to have to be a LOUD hearing aid :(
