Those Dam Easter Eggs!

I once saw a no added sugar Easter egg and compared it with a similar "normal" egg of the same brand. They were both exactly the same total weight, exactly the same price, and the total carbohydrate content was... identical! Which means it makes no difference whatsoever for diabetics, you either need the same dose of insulin or you will get the same blood sugar rise if you are not on insulin, and you might find yourself spending rather a lot of time on the loo if you buy the low sugar one. You might as well just buy the sugary one and enjoy it in small doses.

There is a diabetic friendly aisle in most supermarkets... it's called the fresh veg department o_O
That egg would have contained polyols & you need to take that off the total carbohydrates listed. Polyols are listed as carbs but are not processed by the body and pass straight through. If you look at a packet of sweetener & look at the carbs content, it will be as high as sugar, but they won't (or shouldn't) affect BG levels. So, the 'no added sugar' egg will be lower carb than the regular egg & it will keep you regular too.😱:D

It's Sally's daughter that's a type 1 Mark, as it is still a carb it still would need covered with insulin xx

I didn't know type 1's had to cover for sweeteners. Thanks for the info & I apologise to @Sally71.

What you've said makes sense, @Mark Parrott, however we've always been told to count ALL carbs and have never been told that there is anything which shouldn't be included!

I might be wrong about how it works for type 2s so apologies for any mistake there, but again, carbs are carbs as far as I know 😳

We're never told that much Sally (well I wasn't)...can't speak for other T2s but I was told to avoid 'sugar & sugary' things... recommended low fat foods...and moderate to high amounts of carbs at meal times...didn't work for me...of course I now do completely the opposite...low carb high fat...which thankfully is working for me...to my shame still woefully ignorant of insulin use.:(

Yeah I'm the same as Sally told ALL including sweeteners xx

We learn something every day.🙂
