Im on the waiting list from a while ago... I think its around a couple of grand with a life of 4 years??? Mike will confirm that? ?500 quid a year...
I dont know how much My expert meter test strips cost the NHS per pot... ? say 10 or 15 pounds?? @ 200 per month that would be ?40 - ?60 per month (This is an estimate I could be completly off the mark here). SO..... 1 years supply of strips = ?480 - ?720.
vs ?500 for the sensor (Yearly cost at 4 years life @ ?2000) then plus strips for calibration.
Think I could get it funded?? 😛
If it does what it says on the tin, Id fund this myself.
8. Are any test strips, lancets or needles necessary?
Except for periodic baseline reference measurements, there is no need for ongoing finger sticks to constantly recalibrate the C8 MediSensors monitor. However, intended as an adjunct device, it will not completely eliminate the need for finger sticks. Before making any medical decision, confirm your readings with a finger stick.
Hmm...so not so cheap then 🙄
I suspect the fact that the manufacturers have already said you'll still need to do conventional blood sugar testing instantly kills off any chance of this being funded on the NHS. They don't even understand the argument that more testing reduces complications and thus overall expenditure, so they certainly aren't going to understand the case for why people with diabetes should have two different blood sugar measuring devices.

Why has this come up again? - I registered last September - was it after you wrote about it in your blog Mike?
I'm not sure, but I've seen a post about this pop up in a couple of forums. Maybe C8 are beginning to stir again?
